Victor didn�t respond well to the news of Merrie�s expecting; angered that she and Larry had decided to chance her health. Merrie�s pregnancy, meanwhile, proved to be difficult as she was forced to be bed-ridden for most of it. When Merrie later gave birth, she delivered a healthy baby boy that she and Larry named Daniel. To her devastation, Daniel�s twin sister was stillborn. The tragedy left Merrie in such emotional angst that she fell into a deep depression. At his wits end, Larry sought the counsel of a celebrated psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers, to help his troubled wife deal with her grief.
