In the past Aeorin was ravaged by war. Peace was little known and it only came in short periods, separated by sometimes hundreds of years of war. There is very little known history because of the wars. Many people had tried to write down some history but almost always, their work was destroyed. The few writings that have survived are tucked away in Wizard�s towers and in Royal vaults, or in the hold of Elves and other races that were more careful to protect their links to the past. The land was constant turmoil, with people gaining power for short periods of time, until a man, called Raamian gained power in the East. He gathered supporters and conquered more land and eventually, after many years gained power over the whole continent. At this point he had found a wife and had four small children, three boys and a girl. Raamian realized that trying to maintain order in such a large area was a difficult task and divided the continent into three nations, keeping his homeland as the largest nation. When he was old enough, he gave the largest nation, which was called Jezzaria to his eldest son. Raamian kept control of the continent for many years, and under him the many diverse cultures flourished, and for a time, the world had peace. After Raamian's death, his sons took over the nations that had been willed to them, and for about ten years the peace continued. Around that time a minor Lord known as Cortez in Jezzaria began to stir up trouble. He created factions in the large country and began to gather his own followers. One night Raamian's son, Raamyr was hosting a party when he was assassinated. The Lord Cortez apparently seized the opportunity to claim the throne. However most people believe that he was the one who planned the assassination. Raamyr's two younger brothers became enraged at the assassination of their older brother and they found evidence that Cortez was somehow connected to the assassination. The New King, as Cortez had crowned himself, had Raamyr's family imprisoned, and no one has heard from them since. When the boundaries of the nations were originally drawn up by Raamian, the two smaller countries had control of enough of the continent to hold their own against the larger one if they went back to war. Raamian had planned it that way. That way any two countries could keep the other one in check. However this war continued to escalate. It was estimated that at the beginning it should have lasted a few months, a year at most. Something was different though. The war has continued to drag on and on, so far for ten years with no end in site. For the last few years people have noted strange occurrences, more intervention from other creatures that had long ago decided not to interfere with the business of the more common races and such. The two smaller nations have recently been hard pressed to continue the war effort. The newly found allies of the larger nations have been quickly draining their resources. As one way to combat the new forces of the enemy, the allied nations have decided to form parties of about six adventures to do some" behind the scenes" work for them. The army figured that the smaller groups could go places others couldn't and could hopefully dig up some advantage for them. There is one other interesting thing of late. The gods have been paying special attention to the war for as yet unknown reasons. However the gods have paid attention to the wars in the past, just not for some time. Even though the Three kingdoms were ruled by humans the boundaries were acknowledged by the other races and they have found the boundaries to be favorable, as well as the fact that the new King of Jezzaria has threatened them all many times and has killed any who oppose him. He as also forced some races from ancestral lands where he would normally have had no control, except now he came in with more personnel than most people thought could be spared from the war effort and forced the other races out. |
