Moving to Florida Dave and I successfully moved from Austin, TX to Jupiter, FL at the end of May. We love it here and are grateful for your prayers and good wishes. To live in Austin was great, due to the good friends we were so heartbroken to leave. Shown here is my Austin Relief Society. Since the company paid for our move, we were only too happy to let them pack, load, and move our things for us. |

On the way out of town, we visited the George Bush museum in College Station. There were stories of the Bush family growing up, and impressive displays of work done during his term. The two most impressive things to me was a guide who had pins on her blouse signifying over 1000 hours of volunteer work. The other was a statue with bronze horses running over the Berlin wall, symbolizing freedom. Neat. |

We spent the weekend at Dave's parents' home in Houston. Dave's brother Matthew graduated from high school. Congratulations, Matthew! We will miss having family so close! |

On Memorial Day, we drove 13 hours from Texas to Athens, GA to visit with my sister Em and husband James. My first (and only) view of the southern states was a long hallway cut through a 60-foot forest. Trees, everywhere. That's how James and Em's house is: very cozy up next to the tall forest. We stayed there for 2 days and picked blackberries and strolled the Bulldog campus and the gorgeous state botanical gardens and went to dinner and watched Nicholas Nickelby and talked and laughed and had such a great time, we forgot to take pictures. Thanks for everything, James and Em! |

Thursday, June 3 we drove 9 hours down to south Florida. We loved the condo we're renting! It's a first-floor, 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom place, with tile in the kitchen, dining, and living rooms, and a large screened porch. The neighborhood seems very safe and quiet---hooray! Our things arrived Saturday and we've been unpacking for a week. The moving company was great (Atlas to drive, ACE Relocation Systems to pack) and almost nothing was damaged or missing. |

We attended the Jupiter ward on Sunday, and they seem like a nice healthy branch of the church: recent baptisms and a good variety of ages and backgrounds. There are a few more older people (50-70 yrs) but that's good: we need people to lean on while we're young and new here. It's a little transient because FL is such a vacation place. The members look happy when we say we're staying permanently. So we should have work to do shortly. |

Dave began his job Monday, June 7. The small company Florida Turbine Technologies, is a growing, friendly company, and is a good match for Dave. They call the 3 CEOs "the 3 amigos", and Dave gets free lunch at least once a week. He shares a front office, shown here. They put him right to work writing computer code for some predicting software, and preparing some lab tests and fixing the lab programming. He said one day he used material from 8 engineering subjects--he comes home exhausted and happy from all that hard brain work. |

Florida is as green as the South, but with shorter trees, bushes, and lots of palms. There are coconuts growing on palms behind ourcondo, and all sorts of exotic flowers growing everywhere. It's the first time I've ever seen banyan trees, which are enormous. We went to the beach quickly. My impression was "Wow, it's big." Dave's was "Wow, it's clear." It's warm, and so blue, it looks dyed. We've already got watershoes and a snorkel set, and we sneak off every chance we get! |

Saturday, June 12, we went to visit friends Elizabeth and Kevin Vogelmann in Miami (Liz is from Rock Springs and was my Ricks roommate). They told us all about Florida and Miami and took us to a great Cuban restaurant. Thank you! We hope you are patient, as we are returning emails and phone calls and letters slowly. I'll write more about Florida in our next letter. And of course, plan a trip to come visit the beach! |
