e-SCRAPBOOK
The second weekend in December, Dave's sister Melanie and her husband Sam came to visit us in Florida.

They left their 2 kids with Grandma Robertson and flew to Tampa for an optometrist convention. They rented the convertible and drove over to the Florida east coast to stay the weekend. We took an open top tour of Jupiter and told them all about palm trees and all the interesting facts we knew about Jupiter. It was a little chilly at 50 F, but fun.

Ten minutes after getting to our house, Melanie wanted to give us our Christmas present, and she begged us to open it right then. It was 2 body boards! We went to the beach that afternoon, and they taught us how to ride them. There were some pretty good waves, which we learned to ride--woohoo! Thanks Melanie and Sam!

Saturday night, Sam and Dave picked up a tree and we decorated it and listened to Christmas music.  Most of the weekend though, we spent talking and playing board games. Sam is a board game expert, even inventing some of his own, and he taught us at least 4 new games.

Sunday they came to church with us, we played more games, and that evening we went to the beach for a walk. Aren't they cute?

Then we went walking in the intercoastal waterway, where we found lots of mud and a few signs of life.

Monday morning Dave went to work, Sam went running, and Melanie and I walked to the bridge. We saw little fish, skinny fish, striped fish, red fish, silver fish, and toward the end, two giant fish which shot through the water trying to eat the silver fish.

I think they were dolphins, which in Florida, is a type of sport fish. Here, the mammal dolphins are called "porpoises" so as to not get them confused. (Also, here a mullet is a fish, not a hair-do, so when you're here, and someone says "Look, a mullet!" you know to look down into the water.)

We had a seafood lunch, where Dave and Melanie tried dolphin (fish) and I had oysters for the first time. The oysters tasted a lot like all the butter and garlic they were smothered in, so I liked them.

After we walked out on Juno pier. We had a fantastic look at some manatees. A dozen of them swam slowly toward us and right under the pier, surfacing regularly for air. They are BIG animals; more like giant walruses or small brown whales, than like sea lions. Sea cow is a good nickname. Too bad we didn't have the camera!

Melanie and Sam left early Tuesday morning. We enjoyed their visit. Thanks for coming!
