Jupiter, FL Dave got a wonderful job (God be thanked) beginning after graduation from UT in May 2004. The company is Florida Turbine Technologies, Inc. based in Jupiter, FL. The 7 year-old consulting firm has 130 employees and is growing quickly. It's full of engineers just like David who love their work and are good at what they do. David will work regular hours on a computer & in the lab. Hooray! Thanks to the city of Jupiter webpage for this photo. |

Jupiter is on Florida's east coast---2 hrs south of Orlando, 1 hr north of Miami. Jupiter has 40,000 people, not all of whom are retired. On the north--little towns & a state park; on the south--Palm Beach (about 100,000). Jupiter has one ward that is a 20 minute (freeway) drive north to south or east to west. This is Jupiter's beach. The Jupiter inlet is where the dark water is spilling out into the ocean (low tide). Thanks to 24-hr Jupiter Surf Report for this image. |

As the easternmost point in Florida, Jupiter was ideal for several explorers. A lighthouse was built in 1860. Jupiter was first named "Jobe" (ho'-bay) by the Spanish after the local Indian tribe. When the English came, "Jobe" sounded like "Jove" (Roman for Zeus). So they began calling it Jupiter (English for Zeus). Also along the coast are cities Juno (Jupiter's wife), Venus and Mars. Far out. We now live 4 miles inland of the lighthouse. We are in hurricane country. For all my landlocked, desert-dwelling family, this means that for hurricanes level 1, 2 or 3 we stay inside and don't use the phone, and for hurricanes levels 4 & 5 we evacuate or go to the shelter. FUN! (Hey, at least hurricanes are predictable. Dave's other job offer was in north Texas: tornados.) Thanks to skypic.com for this aerial. |

Apparently, being 3 hours south of Cape Canaveral isn't too far to see a shuttle launch at night. Nice, huh? Thanks to Jupiter History Web for this picture. |

There are lots of fun things to do in Jupiter. Swimming, boating, golfing and bridge, snorkeling, sea turtle season, and the hibiscus festival. The first place I want to visit is the Florida Keys. The first place Dave wants to go is Disney World. Thanks to the Palm Beach Boating Guide for this snapshot and a lot of other great information. (Actually, we're not allowed to use the rope swing anymore.) |
