LETTER

September 2004 (second letter)

Dear family and friends,

I wanted to write you once before we are again plunged into the darkness of another hurricane. While Tropical Storm Jeanne was written off by many Floridians a week ago, (it was aimed at the Atlantic,) she abruptly decided to do a 270-degree flip and join her friends Bonnie, Charley, Frances, Ivan 1 and Ivan 2 in the sunshine...no, hurricane, state. (Hey, Florida has so much tourism magnatism that even the elements can't keep themselves away!)

Not since 1886 in Texas have 4 hurricanes hit 1 state in 1 year. Not since 1961 have there been this many hurricanes. A hurricane in 1965 (?), "Bad Betsy" pulled the same turn-around stunt, but that was a loooooooonnnnng time ago for Floridians to remember. The 60's were the last huge cycle of hurricanes; although every 10 or 15 years the severe ones come along.

So you may say to yourself "Boy, the Robertsons sure picked the wrong year to move to Florida!" It's true. At least in a condo we don't worry about our roof or downed trees. Our apartment wasn't flooded during Hurricane Frances, so we're staying here instead of going to the church.

Besides we're looking forward to a quiet weekend. Dave is finally getting over his fever and tiredness. I finally finished my Dad's birthday present for his 50th today after working on it hard for a month. And I was just called as Young Women's president. Since I am so young, I seem to be making extra mistakes, but hopefully I'll make it with God's help and the YW's forgiveness.

(Funny, I was called, but the next Sunday was a hurricane; the next Sunday I was sustained, but only sacrament was held; then I taught 1 Sunday; tomorrow's meetings are cancelled again; and the next Sunday is General Conference. 1 of 5 is making me antsy!)

Well, I'll tell you later how we fared the storm.

In the meantime, look at this site for some hilarious hurricane political cartoons--highly recommended for a good laugh!

Love,
Liz Robertson
