I began decorating for my Hummingbird's Homecoming the first of March in 2004, with red everywhere I could put it. Then finally on March 27th, I finally spotted my first male Ruby Throat. I was estatic! But getting a picture of him was difficult.

Within a day he was gone and I had to wait a couple of more days to see another. That one brought a friend and by April 6th I saw my first female.
About the only time I would see a hummer was between 6 and 9 am and between 4 and 7 pm. We were running the webcam so that all of our friends could try to catch a glimpse of them, too. They weren't the best pictures but they were of a hummingbird all the same. LOL
By mid-April I knew I had one of my regular fellows back. I called him Fat Boy and he liked to sit and listen to me talk to him.
May flew into June which flew into July and I was blessed with several males and twice as many females. By the first of July I was seeing immature Ruby Throats guarding the feeders from their elders and my numbers grew. By mid-July I would only see one male around. I named him Mr. Red. He liked to guard a less busy feeder on the front porch.

The last week of July brought several more males in to defend the feeders and add to the activity that the juviniles were enjoying. By mid-August it became even more busy. A cool spell with rain bought all the neighborhood hummingbirds to my feeders one day and at one point I counted 11 hummers at the 3 feeders on my east deck. The thrill of seeing all that activity lasted all day and into the next when it was sunny and cooler.

The feeder flurry began to slow the first of September but my hummers remained around until mid-October.
