In Memory of Malcalm MacDonald On the sixteenth day of July, In eighteen-ninety-two, The sun shone out so brightly, Upon a happy crew. Who went to Little Harbour, To have a day of fun. But it was turned to sorrow, E'er it was well begun. The son of Dan MacDonald, Undressed himself that day, And went into the water, With others for to play, But sad to say we missed him, And search was made in vain, Which made his mother feel so sad, And filled her heart with pain. His mother cried, "my child is lost, Oh Dear! What shall I do? The drive which cost my child his life, My heart shall ever rue. Oh, How I wish I'd stayed at home, Instead of coming here, My heart would now be free from pain My conscience would be clear." |

We searched for him till nine at night, Then home we had to go, And tell to those, who mourned for him, That he still layed below. His father stayed there all that night, His darling boy to find, He searched for him from four o'clock, Yet nothing could he find. His age was nine years and eight months, When he was called to go.
