Adversus Hæreses Against Harrisonism
©Lúcio J. Mascarenhas, July 10, 2002. Revised June 9, 2006
The St. Gabriel group received and forwarded a message from a person using the e-mail id,
Eoghanna Eireann, comprising a statement by a Brian W. Harrison. Checking the links, I found the original document
A HERETICAL POPE WOULD GOVERN THECHURCHILLICITLYBUTVALIDLY dated May 2000, on the
Living Traditions site of the
Oblates of Wisdom, which confesses unity with the
New Catholic sect of the heresiarch Charles Voltiva (Karol Wojtyla, pretending to be pope under the name
John-Paul the 2nd).
Evidently, Mr. Harrison is a 'priest' of this sect, thus not a Catholic. It is interesting - and telling, that Mr. Harrison, (I deliberately refuse to call these things 'priests,') blasphemously calls Roncalli, that great malefactor and the founder of his sect, 'Blessed,' certainly an appellation that no Christian will apply to so vile a man; obviously, this impious appellation is offensive to our Catholic ears.
It is evident that this writing has been deliberately created, with the malicious intention of deceiving and seducing souls into returning to the slavery of Satan.
I have the grave misfortune to not have personal access to Canon Law, or other principal Catholic sources. Nevertheless, I will make notes, from what I have learnt. It is neither within my ability nor my intention, for now, to compose a detailed refutation of Mr. Harrison's work. Instead, I will try to create notes which others, more capable in this regard can use for this purpose.
Basic Premise
From a first, preliminary reading, it becomes obvious that Mr. Harrison contends that even if a papal electee is a heretic in the strictly canonical sense, he nevertheless still validly becomes and remains pope, until he either voluntarily resigns or dies, claiming to be able to prove this his contention from the 1917 Code of Canon Law and subsequent papal legislations. (Mr. Harrison gratuitously offers us also his sect's perversion of the Canon Code and the legislations of his heresiarchs, Roncalli, Montini, Luciani and Voltiva. However, the only good use that we Catholics can find for these being toilet-paper, we will pass over his quotations from them.)
Father Conman
However, it soon becomes obvious that it is Mr. Harrison's intention to to pull off a sleight-of-hand by confusing us over the Church's legislations concerning
secret, occult heretics and those which govern
public, pertinacious heretics. If Harrison restricted his contention to merely the first category of heretics - secret, occult heretics, then he is on certain, orthodox ground. However he seeks to confuse the two categories in our minds.
Swallows Camels
Mr. Harrison obviously pretends, by this trickery, to show that the 'post-conciliar' popes are not public, pertinacious heretics, but merely secret, occult ones.
It would take a colossally blind man to deny the obvious and say that these clowns and pretender popes were/are not public and pertinacious heretics but only secret, occult ones. This is maliciously deliberate blindness. The man swallows camels whole and strains at gnats.
Why ever should we pretend, if we should prefer to pretend and dwell in a make-believe world, that these clowns are even secret, occult heretics?
If we can deny to ourselves the most obvious facts, that even little children should be able to see, then let us go the whole hog and put these chappies on the par of St. Thomas Aquinas and the other Doctors of the Church - far from being heretics of any kind, they are infact paragons and exemplars of the faith! Let us all gather around these clowns and exult:
It is not men who speak, but gods!
Spying On Our Happiness
If Mr. Harrison's contentions were true, then I can see that it was the intention of the Church to bind us in slavery and obedience to Satan; obviously an impossibility.
It is obvious, too, I think, that Mr. Harrison seeks to foist on us the cult of a false Legalism. The Mildenhalls of the St. Gabriel site rightly object to Harrisonism on the grounds that if this is true, then the Church has absolutely no means to protect itself against a hypothetical case when a Catholic consents to become the heresiarch of the Anglicans and simultaneously pope - one man head of both Christendom and of English neo-Heathenry!
As a matter of fact, it is exactly this 'hypothetical' situation that obtains since 1958: Roncalli being purportedly 'elected' pope went on to found and head a schismatical sect.
It is obvious that Mr. Harrison has written this tract (and perhaps others, since his site, as above, lists many writings both by him and a John McCarthy,) in order to deceive us and seduce us back into slavery to Satan, personified by his chief representative, the Polish actor, Charles Voltiva.
Mr. Harrison is not one of us, but has come in to spy on us and our Happiness in the Lord and our obedience to Him, for his masters, Satan and his chief contemporary antichrist, Chas. Voltiva.
On What We Stand
Mr. Harrison tells us that the teachings of Bellarmine and the others upon whom we rely for our rejection of the apostate Modernists are merely personal opinions and not Church teaching. In doing so, Mr. Harrison deliberately distorts the facts.
We have not stood apart and refused our assents, thus putting our individual salvations at stake, on mere opinions. On the contrary, following the Constant teaching of the Church, we have taken the unanimous and near-unanimous teaching of theologians over time, Bellarmine, etc., which the Church itself commands us to receive as Magisterial, and based ourselves on that.
Mr. Harrison, as a 'priest' ought to know this much one can only attribute his feigned ignorance to deliberate malice: the intention to deceive. That is, in itself, a bad start.
Mr. Harrison seeks to confuse us about licity, validity
and offices! To restate Catholic doctrine, a validly ordained priest, even if a heretic and a schismatic can still nevertheless validly, though illicity, confect the sacraments, if he uses the correct matter and form.
Likewise, a validly consecrated bishop, even if a heretic and a schismatic can still nevertheless validly confect the sacraments, thus even ordain validly, though illicity, priests.
However, when a priest or bishop publicly and pertinaciously falls into heresy or schism, he certainly loses office or the position(s) of jurisdiction that he held in the Church. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the validity of his sacerdotal or episcopal character, which he cannot ever lose.
The Papacy is NOT a sacrament, therefore, a pope who becomes a public and pertinacious heretic
certainly loses the office.
Profession Against Harrisonism
Against Harrisonism, we, the Catholics, believe, confess and profess that a public and pertinacious heretic being ostensibly elected pope does not thereby validly become pope. His election despite all appearances to the contrary and not being disputed by most or nearly all would not even for this reason be considered supplied: he cannot ever ever be supplied. And in this he can be judged and shown to not have canonically and validly assumed the papacy, not as pope, but as a person and even as a non-pope and an antipope.
Against Harrisonism, we, the Catholics, believe, confess and profess that it is obvious to all, except those of evil intentions and of invincible ignorance, that the so-called 'post conciliar popes' have publicly and pertinaciously, by acts and deeds, by teachings and by entirely un-Catholic, even anti-Catholic behaviour, shown themselves to have, at various times defected from the Christian faith: Roncalli possibly before his purported election but certainly after his purported election, Montini, Luciani and Voltiva before their purported elections.
Revisions
March 14, 2003.
Sometime in October or November 2002, I found
Pope Michael's page giving an English translation of Pope Pius XII's Apostolic Constitution,
Vacantis Apostolicæ Sedis. From this I learnt that Mr. Harrison has deliberately misquoted Papa Pacelli's legislation, which in the very next article after the one quoted by him (Harrison) deals with exactly the same issue that Harrison pretends Pacelli did not legislate for: An exclusion of heretics and schismatics who tacitly resigned office under Canon 188.4. I provide the entire relevant text:
"The right to elect the future Pope belongs solely to the Sacred College of Cardinals to the exclusion of any intervention by any other civil or ecclesiastical authority or dignity, or even by a General Council, which, if it is in session at the time, is ipso facto suspended on the death of the Pope until reconvened by the new Pope.
"Of the Cardinals, each and every one has the right to vote in the election, even though under excommunication.
"Cardinals who have been deposed or who have resigned, however, are barred and may not be reinstated even for the purpose of voting. (Emphasis added)
It is obvious then, that Mr. Harrison deliberately misquotes Papa Pacelli with the obvious intention of misguiding souls.
Yesterday, 13
th March 2003, I found the
interesting debate between Fr. Anthony Cekada and Mr. Brian Harrison, wherein the latter carries on with the same lie.
