During March, 1999, I began having trouble breathing so my parents took me to Wanganui hospital, where I spent the next ten weeks in ICU. A tracheostomy was performed so I could be put on a ventilator to help with my breathing. I am now on a PLV100 ventilatorabout 20 hours a day, and for the rest of the time I breathe on my own.
The main reason I spent ten weeks there was because I had to have an operation so that I can be fed through a feeding tube with a special formula called Jevity. It is administered during the night while I sleep.
I can still eat a little of what ever I like. It has helped me put weight back on, as I was having eating and bowel problems before going into hospital.
As my bowels were causing me a lot of problems, an ileostomy was also performed while I was in hospital.
These operations have improved my life immensely.
My life has never been better.
