From: Metal-Mayhem UK, Band: Souless Album: In Darkness We Will Remain Year: 2003 Website: http://www.souless.com Rating: 8.5/10 |
| Formed back in '99 by brothers Ross and Jay Rossignoli, "In Darkness We Will Remain" is the bands debut EP after they split and reformed with new drummer Albert Botello. |
Although it's fairly short, "IDWWR" is a slice of top quality old school American death/grind with extreme vocals ranging from ultra low guttural to a weird screeching. It really does make you realize there are so many unknown great bands out there and there are literally hundreds of mediocre bands relishing the limelight. |
Another thing worth mentioning is the variation over the four tracks, there's plenty of tempo changes and some pretty technical work going on. "In Darkness We Will Remain" is available from Funeral Harvest Records for $6.00 or free to download. I look forward to hearing some more stuff from Souless, hopefully a full album soon! " |

From: Romanian Underground Souless - In Darkness We Will Remain in love with the dark side of our souls by: Julius von Sammaël If I would look to the origin of this band (Los Angeles), then some of the mystery would be elucidated. But no, this time we don’t have to do with a Thrash project, but with a pure and macabre Death Metal debut in the most outrageous possible method. On In Darkness We Will Remain… it can be imagined that the general vision is characterized by underworld abrasive vocals and ripping drums crossed by grinding riffs and with no sign of melody or harmony. Not a chance for the massacre we are hearing starting with Hatred and finishing with Coffin. The continuous depraving gorefest is an exciting and possessive manifestation of all that is putrefied and cavernous in our kind of existence form. Even if I cannot recall it a very original creation, the band sounds really tormenting and constant in what it is doing. The links and continuity of the songs make me think that one day this band will succeed to make a name in the Underground field. But the ride is long and for such an achievement many things should be accomplished. It is not enough to know how to play the music you like, it is necessary to improve yourself and to concentrate a guiding inner strength for a better acknowledge and also for a better understanding of how it has to be a Death Metal, be it ultra brutal or sophisticated, method of composing and performing. In general, Death Metal is a pol of powerful legacy and this time around we have that logistic talent with Souless. All that remains is not just the “darkness”, but the proper choice of the right path to follow. We’ll live to see if this first effort will generate something there or not.
