Weddings and Babies and All, Oh My!

Christmas, 2001

Greetings and salutations! Although I have tried to keep up my tradition of sending out musical Christmas cards, it has been a while since I’ve actually been in touch with many of you.

While the title of this article may seem unduly exciting, let me hasten to explain that my personal family status has not changed! Nevertheless, it has been an eventful year (or two), so let me start with this summer.

After a seemingly quiet spring, I ended up going to 5 wedding celebrations in 2 months. Starting at the “Heart of It All” (some of you Columbus folks may recognize the slogan), there were nuptials in Motown and Beantown, Washington State and Washington, DC.

It was good to see some old friends from MIT (some twice, some thrice) and reunite with older friends from Stanford.

But the biggest wedding of them all had to be Dad and Ying Tong. Both having been widowed by cancer, both supporting each other as friends, and both growing to love and care for each other in a new family. As I am fond of telling people, my brother Gene and I think that Dad got the better end of the deal.

BUT weddings are only half the story—there was also a veritable plethora of rugrats to welcome into the world this year. From multiples in California to multiples in Michigan, and one in Illinois the week of 9/11, it has been a time…
