To My Brother I sat on the front porch swing; I heard you call my name; I was quick to answer, It was only a bird singing in the trees. I went for a stroll in the woods. I heard you walking behind me; I turned to say hello, It was only a squirrel rustling in the leaves. I went for a walk in the park; The smell of your cologne startled me. I searched near and far to see; It was only wildflowers dancing in the breeze. I took a walk down the lane; A flash of color caught my eye. I turned hoping to find you there. It was only butterflies fluttering in the air. I looked up through my falling tears; How much you would have loved, This starry, moonlit sky above, Where have you gone, I cried? I bowed my head to weep. Then I heard your voice, Whispering softly in my ear, Look around you it seemed to say, I am everywhere. And I smiled. |
