From SW take 81-N to 70-W
Beltway to 270 to 70 West. You know where that new Outlet Mall is? If you take that exit, there is a Go gas station that is usually one of the best buys on gas.
Or maybe route 7 to Leesburg to route 15 to 70 West.
70 West to 68 West. This is Interstate 68 West and is a left hand exit just after Hancock. Do Not Be Deceived by State Road 68 which is a right hand exit a few miles before!! Just as you get on 68, (10 miles), there is a great stop at Sideling. Nice leg stretcher and you're over 1/3rd of the way - almost 1/2, actually. Cumberland is about 8 miles past 1/2 way. Anyway, Sideling has nice restrooms, good view and an interesting, if small museum which tells you what you're looking at. Just before the WV line, you will pass the Continental Divide and leave the Chesapeake Watershed. Also, this is the only place I have ever seen Bear Crossing signs. Did you know that Maryland has no natural lakes? They are all manmade. Thinking of that because you will pass Deep Creek Lake exit. Garrett County here can be counted on to have the strangest weather - not just for this trip - but Ever! If it's sunny, it will rain there. If it's rainy, it will snow there. <sigh> But for a gorgeous view, stop at the first rest stop in MD on your way back.
68 West to 79 South. This is a left hand fork almost in Morgantown. Just before you get to the next turnoff (Rt 50), there will be a buffalo herd on your left with a beautiful white buffalo in it - you will see this better on your way back as you'll be on the right side then.
79 South to 50 West at Clarksburg. You are now 1/2 hr to 45 mins from home. Remind me to show you the "sisters' houses" on your left just before you get to Salem.
Right Turn at Route 18. This winds past an athletic field on your right (note the bleacher is built right into the ground) and dead ends at a "T".
Option 1) Stop in the BP station and call 873-3379 (Recommended)
Option 2) Make a left at the "T". The road will swing left and on your right will be J&J Florist - this used to be an old Stagecoach stop. With the Courthouse dead ahead, make a right onto Main Street. Marin’s Corner on your left - make a left just before it. At the top of the road is a Post Office on your right. Make a right there - the street veers left and then left - you are now at 101 Maple Street, West Union, WV 26456. Looking straight down you will see the PO and Marin's Corner, you just "switchbacked to here".
Bud says to put bigger wheels on the outside of your car!! He says that whole thing about the shorter leg is a myth - nobody walks.
