Beraking Campsite

June 2000

The Beraking Campsite is on the Bibbulmun Track and about 50 kilometers by road from Armadale. The car park to this part of the track can be reached from travelling down the Brookton Highway for about 30 kilometers past Armadale until you meet Ashendon Road on the left. After about 5 kilometers down this dirt and ripply track turn right down Mount Dale Road that T intersects with Ashendon Road. About 10 kilometers later and 3 kilometers before the observatory atop of Mount Dale and hence the end of the road, turn down Nockine Road that branches off to the left. Two kilometers down this road is a parking area for hikers. Nokine Road is not marked and it is evident that it is not in the quarantine area.

The water tank (top left) marks the car-park area for this section of the Bibbulmun track. You can go further down the road, but it worsens. Or you could keep driving down Nockine Road and take a left turn to avoid a rather long and steep uphill walk.

Here are Mia and Neal resting at those three logs, a little less than 3 kilometers to go to Beraking Campsite. They had started at Mt Dale Road about 8 kilometers back, having caught a taxi there. Good time for a rest, a drink, and to sort out a bit of the back pack.

That white barked tree, about a kilometer and a bit from the campsite is huge (3m in diameter) and just absolutley magnificient.

Mia and Neal arrive at the Beraking Campsite and meet other campers who will also be staying overnight. There is Russell sitting on a log and taking in the spectacular view from the campsite. There is Bret quielty reading a book and soaking up some of the glorious sunshine. And who's that on the top bunk in the sleeping bag - its Connor, now what are you doing in there this time of the day!
