| Little Amber Hagerman was just 9 years old when she was abducted while riding her bike near her grandmother's home in Texas and singing her favorite song, God Bless America at the top of her lungs. AN unknown stranger in a pickup truck yanked Amber off her bike while she kicked and screamed, trying to get free. Her nude body was found a week later in a drainage ditch near her Arlington, Texas. She had been raped and her little neck had been sliced. In her memory, the Amber Alert was created. It is an alert system for missing kids. When a child disappears, the local police department notifies radio and tv stations (who have agreed previously to participate with the Amber Alert) and they release the information to the public immediatly. The Amber Alert was called into effect in 1999, for the disapearence of Opal Jennings, who is still missing, and Cristy Ryno, who was later found murdered. |
