Clever Girl... >> Friends >> The List >> The law party...

Before I forget, Killing Heidi are playing at the Castle Hill Tavern (I think ;)) on April 25th.  The price is somewhere between $25-30, and Tadpole, a faaabulous NZ band, are also playing.  They rock.  If anyone wants to come (so far only Andrew is ;)), email me. :p

Onto my story.

On Thursday night, despite the wind, cold, and pouring rain, I decided to go to the Law Party at the City Hotel.

Despite a few initial problems... I believe this was a good decision.  I arrived at about 10:30pm or so to find the party gates had been closed off at 9pm.  I tried to explain to the doorwoman that I was PART of the private party, that I attended Sydney Uni... but she wouldn't budge.  I walked down the stairs, dejected and prepared to leave... when I ran into Penny, whose boyfriend had also not been allowed upstairs, despite the fact that Penny was in charge of SULS.  Penny was also with a couple of cute boys... but of course clever Rachel had to complain about how late Andrew was... making herself appear taken.

I spotted Andrew and Lee about 2 minutes later, and all was well.  They couldn't get upstairs either.  We ordered drinks, started to mingle, and Andrew came across a couple of girls who were leaving the party at 11pm, and subsequently could give us their passes.  The only problem was that there were three of us, and two of them.  In the meantime, Anne and Amy came downstairs, very drunk, and cajoling us to come up.  We tried to explain to them that we didn't have passes, but I don't think they understood.

Eventually we got the two passes, and just bolted our way upstairs.  By the time we got up the bar tab had ended, but it didn't matter that much, because we didn't have to pay the requisite $20 to get in. ;)

Andrew went off to hang out with Anne and Amy and poor Lee was left holding his beer for him.  I congratulated her on making full Lackey status, and told her of the time I had been asked to buy FOUR drinks (one for me, one for Ben, and two for Andrew) and Andrew wouldn't take his from me because he was busy chatting up girls.  I'm so glad Lee came to the party, because she was exceedingly fun - loving all the same drinks i do.  She even introduced me to a new one - vodka and raspberry.  Apart from that, I had a stolli, a vodka lemon and lime, champagne, tia maria and orange, and some of Andrew's strongbow.  This doesn't sound like much... so I probably had more, but I just can't remember. ;)

We all danced, and Andrew told me he wanted to write a song called 'Andrew Is A Gimp', so we jumped up and down and started screaming 'andrew is a gimp' over the techno music.  It was valde funny... to me, if not to anyone else.

We danced to lots of cool 80s music and Lee and I pretended to be members of a boyband.  5ive, I believe it was.  Yeah, we had the moves. ;)

There were quite a few dodgy guys at the party... guys who clearly weren't law students.  They were just a LITTLE too old, and they were trying to hit on all the girls there.  Including me.  Yep, they MUST have been desperate.

The first one... Andrew thought he was hot... apparently he and Anne started doing a 'Rachel's picking up' dance... although ironically all I was hoping was that one of them would come and save me.  The conversation went a little like this:

Guy: Hi... you're the most beautiful girl here...
*Rachel starts looking for somewhere to escape to as obviously he much think Rachel is exceedingly drunk to fall for such an obvious lie*
G: What's you're name?
R: Olivia.
G: I just wanted to tell you you're an incredibly attractive girl and you could have any guy here...
R *raises eyebrows*: Really?
G: Yes, if you just dance to this song with me you could have the best looking guy here...
R: Well, you see, I think there are plenty of goodlooking guys around, but hardly any intelligent, interesting, caring ones, so...
G: So, what are you into?  Because I'm interested in whatever you are...
R: Well, let's see if you really are.  What ARE you interested in?
G: Whatever you are.
R: WHATEVER I am?
G: Yes.
R: Well... I kinda have a fetish for sex with dolphins.
G: Well, I'm not into THAT.  What else?
R: Well, I really like Austrian tennis.
G: Like Andrew Agassi, Pat Rafter and all that?
R: Noooo... AUSTRIAN tennis.  I think you'll find it's quite a different variety to anywhere else in the.
G: So if we were to play tennis you would beat me?
R: Oh of course.
*R gets sick of waiting for someone to come and save her*
R: Oh, I think I see my friend... she wants me, I've gotta go...
*at this point Rachel runs off, frantically searching for someone she knows, before finally finding Lee.  Andrew approaches thirty seconds later and congratulates her on picking up*

So we left the party, tried to walk to the Monkey Bar, and I guess the only other interesting thing that happened was a very surreal moment as we were walking through the city.  It was beautiful, so postmodern, and so movie like.  As we were walking through the city streets, after the party, I realised that we were... well... walking through the city streets, and so I started singing 'On My Own' from Les Miserables.  Anne joined me, we sang, spinning around, hugging, forgetting the worfs occasionally - just like they do in the movies.  It was a cool moment.

Before I go - Kate, I haven't spoken to you for AGES.  Organise and ICQ or MSN date or email me or something... or you could just check into my diary. ;)  We have much to discuss.

Kisses,

Rach Pach
