Clever Girl... >> Friends >> Highschool Goodbyes
Dear Everyone,

Because I feel so incredibly guilty about not thanking my various friends on my yearbook page and instead focussing on my own petty little existence, I've decided to write a joint letter to everyone in my immediate group and those who I did not write little messages to in little books and the like.  I (sadly) realise that it's unlikely that I'll get to see everyone again, because some of you will be bitches and ignore me.  In any case, this could well come in handy if you die tomorrow and I'm too distressed to think of something to say for your eulogy.
And so, in
Friends alphabetical order...

Aarthi: Thank you for sitting through two years of Journalism hell with Ms Wise and Ms White (ironically I'm considering Journalism for a uni course next year.  Never forget those bludgey lessons chatting, reading trashy stories and playing tetris.  And thank you also for helping me survive those times in English when Ms Hargrave, Louise, Elloise, Emily, and Sacha, etc... would go all pretentious and laugh at people like that girl who couldn't pronounce Antigone correctly.  Our mutual disdain for it all helped me survive.  (The song that will remind me of you: The Trick Is To Keep Breathing - Garbage.)

Adelina: That you for being so obliging when I was stalking ECB on the bus.  Thank you for not blinking an eyelid when I humiliated myself by sitting next to him.  No thank you for saying 'yes' when I asked you "Adelina... have you seen my CD yet?"  You were supposed to say no!  (The song that will remind me of you: Miss Perfection - Me.)

Anna: Thank you for being the only person who could understand what my 'demented shrimp' really was.  I'll never forget our strange and crazy times together... from imaginery friends in year 9 maths (remember Allison?), to you giving me the wrong address to your house, to running madly through the city when we realised the movie was on Pitt Street, not George Street... *sigh* It's been good, hasn't it? (The song that will remind me of you: Ana's Song - silverchair.)

Carmen
: My dearest Carmen, thank you for so much, but most of all your incredible patience and considerate nature throughtout the OBSESSION.  Sometimes I may be shocked at your tactlessness, but then I remember that was the reason I became friends with you in the first place - because you said the things that everybody else thought but were too ashamed to say.  Also thank you for being the only one I could tell about my innermost fears, mainly because you were the only one who wouldn't use them against me (such as the Audrina Complex).  And finally, thank you for all the funny times I mentioned in your book.  (The song that will remind me of you: Sunday Girl - Blondie.)

Christina
: Oh darling, your yearbook page made me cry!  You write the best birthday cards of anyone I know (like the 13th and 16th ones), even if it takes you a couple of years to give people Christmas presents.  Oh, by the way, you know that Sweet Valley book I lent you when we first became friends?  A Night To Remember?  Well, you still haven't returned it.  (The songs that will remind me of you: Everybody Get Up - 5ive, Song 2 - Blur.)

Emma: A couple of weeks ago a girl was interviewed in the paper and she said something along the lines of "Business Studies actually gives people a future, unlike Ancient History", but I don't think that's true because History teaches students the importance of learning from the mistakes of the past, and what could be more important than that? (The song that will remind me of you: I Kissed A Girl - Jill Sobule, She's Got Issues - The Offspring.)

my stories - but was actually enthusiastic about it.  I'll never forget your intense hatred for a certain favourite English teacher of mine.  (The song that will remind me of you:
David Duchovny - Bree Sharp.)

June: You're sooo fat!  I'll never forget our lovely little discussions on nutrition during physics, such as the dos and don'ts of eating an apple pie once a month for recess.  Thank you so much for your idiosyncrasies and the help you gave me (even though I only understood three words of it). (The song that will remind me of you: Perfect - Alanis Morissette.)

Lauren: Thank you for your complete disregard of superficiality, legendary videos parties, and for being one of the few people who can stump Menike in an argument.  While I'll never be able to comprehend your love of Star Wars, your taste in music is sublime (Garbage, yeah!), and you make a mean lasagne - an admirable trait in any friend (especially considering I can't cook). (The song that will remind me of you: Karma Police - Radiohead.)

Spice's impending breakup, and other fascinating topics of conversation.  Never forget our laughter (and Adelina's subsequent confusion) when that 'psychic' quiz said my song with you-know-who was
Man! I Feel Like A Woman! (The song that will remind me of you: Larger Than Life - BSB.)

Saru: Thank you for your complete friviolity and all those strange questions you would ask me in Biology ("Do I look funny from the back when I walk?"), as well as, along with Jun, completely skewing my view of how the rest of the grade was going in Biology.  I'll never forget that perverted reaction of yours when you saw a certain part of Keanu Reeves' anatomy (I'm making it sound a lot worse than it really is, aren't I?) (The song that will remind me of you: Everybody - BSB).

Back
Anuja: I'll never forget that horrified expression of yours whenever you learnt something... new.  Remember year 10 music when Mr McCormick thought that my saga story was us gossiping about our lives ('and she kissed him and she thought he was his brother so she shot his real brother...').  Hmmm... he was a strange man.  (The song that will remind me of you: Eternal Flame - The Bangles).
Irem: The most misunderstood person I know.  Seemingly bubbly, cheerful, and over-the-top, but at the core of it all... a terrible pessimist ("We're all going to die!"  "We must be lost!"  "No one's as pathetic as we are!").  Thank you for being supportive when I needed you most (although only when I needed you most :) ).  Never forget imitating out lives with Darkwing Duck figures, the sexual harrassment nightmare that was 'Shine', or the illustrious year 9 party when we did dances for all the people we knew.  (The song that will remind me of you: Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) - The Offspring.)

Jun: Do you realise my defining memory of you will be that year 11 viscosity experiment?  Naughty pervert!  Thank you for being sweet, funny, and the only person who not only read all
Menike: Thank you for livening up otherwise murderous Geography lessons when Flanno would decide to spend 10 minutes on each skills question.  ("Contour lines show places of equal height.  Girls?  Do you understand that?")  Our conversations on Darwinism, the politics of clothing, fascist sport, Dawson's Creek, B 52's vs Blondie, and whether or not Garbage sucks have been fun and fascinating (for me, at least).  I'll never forget your derision of Dawson's Creek, despite the fact that you didn't miss an episode all year.  (The song that will remind me of you: Action and Drama - bis.)

Richa: Thank you for our hillarious bus ride discussing the virtues (or lack thereof) of BSB,
