Clever Girl... >> Entertainment >> Art
As part of my effort to learn and understand every interesting aspect of the world, I decided to take a trip to the art gallery over the holidays. While I enjoyed my visit very much, I think next time I might go with someone who actually knows something about art, so I can bug them with all my annoying questions. ;)
In any case, as well as 1960s modernism (I think ;)), I particularly liked the paintings of John William Waterhouse who, if I remember correctly, was a Raphaellite, which I assume means he imitated the style of Raphael. I liked his paintings because they were incredibly luminous and beautiful. I particularly liked 'Ophelia' (below), and purchased a print of it.
<<< The painting to the left is a work by my good friend Andrew Yip, who created it for his HSC (year 12) major work. It's called 'The More Things Change The More They Stay The Same', and was part of the Art Express exhibition, for the very best HSC art students. Andrew was also offered $2000 by McDonalds, who wanted to hang the painting in their corporate headquarters. Andrew declined, and so the painting now hangs in his house. Being perhaps a bigger procrastinator than even myself, this was only the second painting Andrew had ever done, and he has done very little artwork since. All the same, I know it's only a matter time before I receive something for free, rather than the standard $550 he usually charges for a small piece of artwork. ;)
