DECEMBER
We will begin our Young Author's Book submission this month, using the book "Fortunately" by Remy Charlip
December is one of my favorite times of year.  The students and I will be enjoying all aspects of the season and savoring every moment!  This month, we will brainstorm and discuss our own holiday traditions that we share with our families and we will learn about other traditions throughout the world.  Please visit the following site to learn how Christmas is celebrated in other countries:
Christmas Traditions from around the world

Activities that our class will participate in:

1.  Write about their own family traditions
2.  Use a double bubble map to compare and contrast our customs with other      countries'.
3.  Write about our findings.

GIFTS IDEAS:
Handprint Calendar Gift

Christmas Bulb Gift:

In 2005, my students painted their hands with white paint and I placed a blue Christmas bulb in their palm.  The child then "grabbed" the bulb and then quickly released it.  The result was a bulb with five finger prints on it that could then be turned into snowmen (we used colored permanent markers).  I sprayed the bulbs with a clear protective coating and attached curly ribbon and a poem.  Please follow above link to see a picture of this craft at Mrs. Flanagan's website.
CHRISTMAS POEMS
Call Rudolph

Eight little reindeer pulling Santa's sled

One fell down and bumped his head.
The elves called Santa and Santa said,

"Can seven little reindeer pull my sled?"

(count down until one...)
One little reindeer pulling Santa's sled,

He fell down and bumped his head.
The elves called Santa and Santa said,

"Call Rudolph!"

Hello Santa
by Kristine Wagoner
Sung to:  "Frere Jacques"

Hello, Santa.  Hello, Santa.
How are you?  How are you?
Busy making games,
Checking children's names.
How are you?  How are you?

Hello, Elves.  Hello, Elves.
How are you?  How are you?
Busy wrapping toys,
For the girls and boys.
How are you?  How are you?

Hello, Rudolph.  Hello Rudolph.
How are you?  How are you?
Landing on you toes,
Shining up your nose.
How are you?  How are you?
