Wreck
Dives at Subic Bay
New York- This is one of the most exciting
wreck dives in the area. The New York was built in the U.S.
in the year 1891. The ship was scuttled by the Americans during
WW2 in 1942 when the Japanese made a full attack. The New
York lays on its port side in 27 meters of water. This wreck
offers a great dive for Advanced divers to full technical
divers. There is so much to see such as the large guns with
passage ways all the way down to the engine room. The visibility
can range from 5-15 meters depending on the day. There is
normally quite a variety of marine life to be seen such as
bat fish, barracudas and even a manta ray. Don't forget to
bring your camera!!!!!
LST- This wreck lays in around 34 meters
of water, a slight bit deeper then some of the others. The
wreck has some very large cargo passage way that go most of
the way from stern to the bow. Around the stern of the wreck
that has been damaged the most has some of the best marine
life to see. The viz is usually quite good on this wreck where
on a real good day you could probable see 30 meters. This
wreck is again quite good for either recreational or technical
divers. For those that are qualified there are some interested
passage ways that go down each side of the wreck from.
El Capitan- The El Captain is a small freighter
that is now located over by the Marine Park. The wrecks stern
is at 5 meters and the bow is at around 24 meters. There is
a lot of places you are able to swim through that are quite
open. On this sight you can get a lot of bottom time since
the wreck is so shallow. The visibility can vary any where
from 5-20 meters and this wound depend which time of the year
it is. If you look closely enough you can see some large lobsters
crawling around on the steel structure.
Oryoku Maru- This wreck was also named the
“ HELL SHIP”. Approximately 1600 U.S. POW and
family had died when another U.S aircraft had bombed it. The
wreck is quite near to the pier and in quite shallow waters
of 20 meters. The wreck itself was a hazard to other wrecks
pulling into the pier so it had to be torn down more. On this
wreck it is possible to see barracuda’s plus some clown
fish.
Siam Maru- The Siam Maru lays in 27 meters
of water on its port side. The length of this ship is approximately
100 meters long and laying on the ships port side. The Japanese
cargo ship was sunk by the U.S. military in 1945. With the
size of this wreck you can spend many dives just exploring
around.
For the technical divers we do have some other wrecks for
you. For instance there is a F4 fighter jet in 42 meters of
water. The F4 was There are other wrecks in the bay that are
quite impressive that are for the technical damaged beyond
repair and was pushed of the side of a U.S aircraft carrier.
AT 72 meters there is a invader bomber returning back from
Vietnam on its way to Clark air base but never made it.
