Under Ohio law, litter is any trash thrown, discarded or dropped by a person onto public property, private property not owned by the individual, or into Ohio's waterways. The Ohio Revised Code prohibits littering, regardless of whether or not it was intentional. Littering is a serious offense, punishable by fines of up to $500 and 60 days in jail. There are many kinds of littering offenses; the following is a brief overview of Ohio's major litter laws.
Litter Control
The School
Program provides a variety of litter control services.
Approximately 250 litter barrels are in place throughout
the city in areas of heavy pedestrian traffic and in
city parks. These barrels are emptied through a contract
with Waste Management, Inc. and are maintained by Clean
School Program seasonal employees.
Seasonal
employees operating mechanical walk-behind sidewalk
sweepers provide litter collection. Litter collection is
also provided through a contract with Waste Management,
Inc.
Volunteer groups provide additional litter
collection from time to time through litter collection
events such as Earth Day and community service days. If
your group would like to sponsor a litter collection
event, contact the Clean School Program. Bags, gloves and
collection service for litter collected will be
provided.
Students of grade 7th of B.S.S steel town branch started an anti-litter campaign in the school. Before that in past students of this branch launched Energy Patrol activated in the school. That was very successful. This time Litter Control was organized by the science teacher MRS. ZAINAB SHAH and her team of 21 students.
