Chapter 5: Meant To Be?
The second-last day of the year�
Watching her fellow friends and clan members, Sakura helped with the decorations that the Create Card had made for the New Year celebration. Checking that the string of decorations that she held were secure, she watched as Tomoyo and Eriol whispered quietly. Realising something, she remembered that she was supposed to help with the food that was to be baked and rushed off, forgetting all about her mischievous friends.
"Everything is going to plan," Tomoyo whispered in Eriol's ear.
"Yes, the cherry blossom doesn't suspect a thing. She will be so surprised!" chuckled Eriol, eyes twinkling in the light.
They were decorating the outside gardens, where everyone would be able to enjoy without being cramped. Bouquets were everywhere and many of them were surprisingly cherry blossom bouquets. (I wonder who did that? ^-~)
"Well, I have to go� got to show Sakura her dress for the ball," said Tomoyo, excitedly as she kissed her boyfriend goodbye.
Hurriedly, she rushed off to get the "fantastic" dress.

Hearing a knock on her door, Tomoyo scampered to the door and opened it.
"I hope this is worth the time, Tomoyo," sighed Sakura, used to her friend's eagerness.
"Of course it is. Now take this and put it on," Tomoyo said shoving a black plastic covering while pushing Sakura into the bathroom.
After waiting a while, Sakura stepped out.
Looking at Tomoyo, she watched as Tomoyo gasped and became speechless.
"Well? Do I look good?" she asked impatiently, being as dense as she was.

Sitting in her fairylike throne, Sakura watched as most of the teens were on the dance floor. She herself had been asked numerous times but as they realised she wouldn't accept any of them as dance partners, they drifted onto the dance floor with other ladies. All of them were masked for it was a masquerade but all of them had known who she was.
Then out of the corner of her eye, she saw another group of people arrive. She didn't recognise them but then again, they were all masked. But as they all mingled with the people around her, a masked stranger caught her eye.
Dressed as a dashing but mysterious foreigner, the eye catcher spotted Sakura. She held his look as he admired her. Sakura's face was hidden by her white mask covered with jewels on the corners of it. Her dress was white and was overlayed with a sparkling silver covering. In her let down hair, was a silver tiara with diamonds encrusted in it. Her hair was shining with silver glitter, stars and moons. All together, she looked like an angel princess.
"The heaven is missing an angel tonight," he thought to himself.
Looking into those mysterious eyes, Sakura was stunned at the stranger. The figure was dressed in a black cape outfit and was taller than her. As he walked towards her, she was astonished when he bowed for her only.
"Do you care for a dance?" he asked casually, still locking his eyes on hers.
"I wouldn't mind," she answered, while inside her head was all a tizzy.
Stepping from her shimmering throne, she held her flowing dress in one hand and slipped her hand on the stranger's outstretched hand. Guiding her, the admiring outsider led her onto the dance floor. Putting her hand on his shoulder, he took her hand in his and they started a waltz.
Dancing after a while, the music changed to a slow song. Freeing her hand from the stranger's comforting grip, she lifted her hand to rest on his other free shoulder. His free hand went down to her waist and then they danced like this for a while before Tomoyo came up with Eriol, dancing beside them.
"Sakura! I thought you would never dance!" puffed Tomoyo tired from the dancing.
Before she could say something, the great bell chimed twelve times.
"TAKE OFF YOUR MASKS!" bellowed a head clan member over all the music and chiming.
As everyone around her slowly removed their masks, there were many gasps heard.
Then Sakura peeled away the mask to reveal her lovely face to the hidden man. He was removing his mask too. Finally his face was fully shown and before he had time to straighten, Sakura hugged him tight.
"Syaoran! You came back!" she whispered lightly in his ear.
"It's good to see you too Sakura," Syaoran whispered.
Then the air lit up with fireworks set off by some of the more ingenious members. (*cough*Tomoyo*cough* *cough*Eriol*cough* ^.~) Watching the fireworks in amazement, Sakura felt warm arms slip around her slim waist. Craning her head backwards, she saw Syaoran smile down on her. Then as Sakura snuggling closer, the couples and the rest of the clan members of the Kinomoto and Li clan watched the amazing display.

Tradition for all the clans that on the first day of the year, dragons of age and have no partners, were eligible to find their mate on that day. Today there was a big turnout for the Kinomoto clan and the Li clan were joining together for this yearly celebration.
All of the Li clan had to be told what the celebration was about for their clan wandered around conquering instead of staying in one spot. Which had its downsides because the clan wasn't thriving a lot.
As the first ray of sunlight hit everyone's eyes, all of the eligible dragons took off from the ground. The air was filled with masses of colours, red, brown, yellow, bronze and a few other colours. Sakura herself was watching with excitement.
"Surely one of them has to be Silver's mate!" she thought to herself as Silver Star darted through the air with ease while her pursers tried to follow the young queen's trial. For if Silver Star mated, they pair of dragons would be crowned as queen and king. They would be the partners of the heads of the Kinomoto clan. Dragons and humans really bonded together with meant if a male dragon caught up to a female dragon and they mated, the human partners would be destined to be a couple. So Sakura had to be excited.
Watching Wolf follow Silver Star, Syaoran had to agree that Silver was a quick turner. Taking a quick glance at Sakura in her casual but lovely clothes, he sent a message to Night Wolf.
"Tease her�" he said, smirking.
Putting on a burst of unused speed, Night over took Silver and flew just in front, letting a gust of air tease Silver Star. Slightly angered by this display, Silver then over took him.

Almost nighttime, the only dragons left were Diamond Ember (Meilin's mount), Titan John (Ray's mount), Night Wolf and Silver Star.
Titan John was going for Diamond Ember but she was quick. Quick, but not quick enough. A few minutes and then he finally caught up to her. They mated and then all the attention was left to the clans' heads' dragons. Night Wolf and Silver Star were finished with their game. Now before Night could catch her, Silver spun herself like a whirlwind, leaving Night no way of reaching her. Finally when Silver got tired, mainly from the flying and no rest, she stopped and as she slowly regained her sense of surroundings, Night caught her.
Letting Night close, Silver Star twined her tail together with his and gliding together in the last bars of sunlight, they joined and bonded to become a couple.
"Hello, Mistress of the Cards," boomed a rather harsh voice in Sakura's head.
"Night Wolf?!?" was all that Sakura mind spoke back.
"What does this mean?!?" she questioned the wise dragon.
Then as the two dragon voices mingled together, she heard a whisper.
"We are all bonded. Yes, Syaoran and you. You two are destined to be together, like we are too," the two dragons said.
"And I do love you," said the whisper and it echoed though out her mind.
