The Reformation
To understand why the King James Version Bible was written, you must be aware of the things that were happening during James' reign.  The people were living in the time of the great Reformation.  At this time, very few commoners had Bibles.  Everything they knew of God came from the mouths of priests because there were few versions of the Bible in their native tongue or available to them.  Queen Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary) scared many of the writers wishing to translate the Bible away with her Protestant killings.  When Queen Elizabeth I came to power, many writers came out of hiding and began writing different versions for every walk of life.  When James I came to the throne, he allowed a Bible to be written.  It was to be read in churches in the Englishmen's native tongue to replace the growing number of versions outside of the church.
