Music, theatre and food are alive and well in Lismore.
Entertainment is rife with stage shows, concerts, open-air events, 13 pubs and several clubs etc.
Many of the pubs and clubs have regular live entertainment.

Nimbin is only 30k away if you prefer a trip back to the sixties, while Byron Bay is less than an hour's drive.

The Southern Cross University adds learning and a diverse and colourful population to the district. It is only a few minutes drive from the centre of town.

Lismore is reasonably close to beaches, resorts, rainforests and the lure of south eastern Queensland.

Are there many sporting facilities?

For the active sportsperson there are clubs, grounds and venues for both rugby codes, cricket, soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, tennis, swimming, roller skating/blading, horseriding, golf, tenpin bowling, lawn bowling and even a croquet ground (photo).
Lismore has regular horse racing and greyhound meetings, plus a highly popular speedway season that runs from November to April.
Are there interesting places to visit outside of the district?
Plenty! If you live or holiday in Lismore, it's a great base for the surrounding region.
Many beach-towns are within 45 minutes, including Byron Bay, Lennox Head and Ballina etc.
The Gold Coast is only 2 hours away.
If scenery (eye candy) is your choice, the far north coast of NSW contains rain forests and plantations with sugar cane, macadamia nuts, tea, coffee and tropical fruits etc.
More than 83% of people in the northern rivers region live in villages or small towns and many of them have their own distinctive character.
