Volunteers from the Lismore district were recognised
on December 5, 2000 (International Volunteer Day) in a celebration
at Spinks Park.
State Member Thomas George and Deputy Mayor Merv King delivered short
speeches and handed Certificates to over 40 organisations acknowledging
their volunteers.
The organisations represent 4150 volunteers who donated 324,483 hours
of their time over the past 12 months.
The ceremony was marred by heavy rain, but thankfully the large tent
(photo) saved all.
Following the ceremony, the volunteers tucked into a sausage BBQ and
two very large cakes.
The event was organised by Lismore City Council and the Lismore Neighbourhood
Centre.
