Laid back Despite the rising water, the atmosphere was 'laid back' in the CBD, as these photos show. ![]() Even many of the shopkeepers were in 'good spirit' despite the double-whammy of working many hours moving their stock and losing prime trading days. Lismore and 'upriver' was inundated with rain for 48 hours prior to the flooding. The only defence Lismore currently has against floods is an earth levee at South Lismore, however this does not protect the CBD from flooding. |
| A full levee scheme, costing over
$10 million would have saved the CBD from flooding. The stumbling block to this is government funding, but is being hotly pursued by council and business. Note: A levee scheme would only protect the CBD, and not the surrounding area. |
