Mystic Circle (8/12) Chapter 8 : Red Fire by lirpa
Everyone you've talked to has been born on this world, has called this world home, whether they be elf, or faery, sorceress or sire, shapeshifter or werewolf or imp. They've all lived here for all of their lives. I haven't. I do find it to be a quaint little world though, I think I might keep it around for a while too.
I was born in the deepest pits of hell, prince of all that I could see. My father, Lucifer, used to tell me stories of the shining kingdom of Heaven, a place I'll never see. I was born not long after the son of God was bornm an anything you can do I can do deal. The first truej demon, humans would say. I'm not a demon, not really. I'm a fallen angel, like my father I lived in hell for a couple centuries, learning what I needed to know to survive in this world of men. My father was a good father, I suppose. He never really loved me though, loved what I could do for him, but not me.
I came to earth when I turned 250 yuears old, by human standards. The year would have been about 400, I guess. The passing of human years has never really meant that much to me. I suppose becausem I don't age and I have never been closely associated with humans. Humans jare God's greatest creatures, greater even thanj the angels. My father detests them, and yet he collects the soulos of their sinners gleefully. I suppose like a child taking another's toys. My father has always been more than a little immature when it comes to God. Makes me wonder exactly what kind of relationship they had.
I've lived on Earth 1600 years, through all the massively Christian sentiments of the Middle Ages. And I didn't even get burned as a arlock, okay, only once did I get burned as a warlock. Only did that once though, then I got smart.
Fought in the Crusades, for the Muslims of course, I actually rather enjoyed that fight, even if Allah isn't much better than my father's God. When the Crusades ended I was at a loss, what to do now?, with people actually thinking for a change. Do you know how much harder it is to make people suffer when they've got hope?
*Flashback*
I can make your life better, make you richer than in your wildesr dreams. I could make you a king."
"What need do I have for those things to be given to me, demon? I will have them soon enough, and by my own hand."
*End Flashback*
You see what I mean? It's so much harder to tempt kpeople when they think they can do it all themselves.
My favorite time in human history was, without a doubt, the early 1400s andlate 1300s. I loved the Black Death, so many souls dying, and all that suffering. I loved it, so many people coming to savethemselves. Too bad it had to end.
The first time I met the vampire was maybe 1600,or at least around there. It struck me as quite amusing, He was a courtier in some royal court, followed around by an elf who seemed to be his mentor. I've always admired Matt, he can make people think the sky is green if he wants.
*Flashback*
"Do you find somethingm funny, sir?" the vampire asked me after he had had quite enough of my snickering.
"Just you, vampire, just you."
He looks at me for a moment before replying, "Surely vampires do exist, btu I am not one of them."
"And there are surely demons, though I am not one of them," I mock.
"Really? Have you ever met a demon?"he quieres.
"Never. Only a fallen angel."
Beside him the elf is laughing, "Well met, son of Lucifer."
"Indeed, elf."
*End Flashback*
Later it was teh elf who got in contact with me, who told me of the job opportunity. In trith, the vampire has never much liked me. Maybe because I make him look like a fool. And I'm more powerful than him. I think he's jealous. Jealous make sme happy, demon that I am.
Oh yes, I have a name, a very biblical name actually. One of the the great traitors in the Bible was Kane. Now I am Kane, and teh world has only begunt o see what I can do. |
