Classroom Procedures

Supplies

One of the most important things you can do to improve your grade and performance in class is to have the appropriate supplies.

Classroom Rules

  1. Be in your assigned seat at the ringing of the bell.  Stay in your assigned seat and/or with your assigned group.  The teacher may move you at any time to a new seat or group.
  2. You may call the teacher's name or raise your hand in order to receive assistance.  Wait your turn to be acknowledged instead of continually calling for attention.  The teacher cannot speak with many different students at the same time.  Leaving your seat may delay your being acknowledged.
  3. Be considerate of other students.  Leave profanity and street language out of the classroom.  Refrain from making jokes at another's expense.  If you have a conflict with another student, ask to speak confidentially with the teacher or the Dean of Discipline immediately.
  4. Be considerate of the teacher.  Get up to throw away trash or sharpen your pencil at appropriate times, not in the middle of a lesson.  Use greetings such as: "good morning" and "good afternoon."
  5. Take less than three (3) minutes to use the rest room.
  6. Advise your friends to avoid visiting you during class time.
  7. Show respect for the classroom when eating and drinking.  When eating or drinking, sit or stand where the teacher tells you to.  Then, throw the wrapping, bottle, or can in the trash.  Students selling snacks for fund raising must ask the teacher's permission first.
  8. Advise the teacher if there is a problem with the hardware or software of your computer.  Students may not change a mouse from one computer to another without permission.  To do so will result in suspension of computer privileges.

Students who adversely affect the education of others and/or show disregard for rules will be subject to disciplinary measures.  These are listed in order of severity, last being the most harsh.  Let us keep these to a minimum: a warning, clean-up duty, a writing assignment, a student conference, removal from the classroom, a phone call home, parent conference, referral to administration, and/or removal from school.

Assignments

•    All in class assignments are due by the end of the period.
•    All out of class assignments are due at the beginning of the period.
•    No credit will be given for work done in pen.
•    Write legibly, or you must redo your work for credit.

Sustained Silent Reading (SSR)

Find a book that interests you at one of Broward County's Public Libraries or the school's library.  Check it out and bring that book to class when we have SSR.  Read it, silently. You will receive full credit for doing so.  That's an easy 10 points each time!

If you need to go to the school's library, ask Ms. Zavos for a pass and she will let you know when you are permitted to leave from class to go there.
