He lay there nearly unconsious on the cold floor. Only his groans gave any evidence that he was still barely alive. He rolled over onto his back and pain lanced through his arms. What day was it? he thought, losing track of time here in this gray cell had been easy. Days had passed, he knew that much, but his routine was always the same, sleep, torture, sleep, more torture.
"You can't quit the band." he heard a voice say to his left, looking over he saw two men standing over him talking as if he was not there.
"I can, and I will. You know I've always wanted to do a solo record. It's time now. Look, on the last record we split and hardly spoke one word to each other, and now you want me back?" The blonde said. The dark haired one smiled.
"This one will different, the band won't continue without you. We need you." The blonde looked down and nodded.
"Alright then, I'll stay, but if it doesn't work I'm out." he said with a smile.
"Good then, John, trust me it'll work."
The one called John looked down and smiled nudging Alec, "Time to wake, my friend."
Alec groaned, and passed out.
He awoke hours later, feeling someone next to him. Alec sat up fainding himself in bed, a woman lying next to him. Alec smiled and ran a hand through his hair. "Just a dream, thank god," he said lighting a joint. The woman rolled over and sleepfully smiled, "Mmmm more?"
"In a bit, I need to relax."
She put her head on his chest and took a hit, reaching across his stomach to the nightstand, "Hand me the jack, baby." Alec reached over to the bottle of whisky and took a swig, then handed her the half empty jd.
She took a healthy swig and smiled at him, snuggling close.
"You're almost ready baby," she said reaching under the blankets and grasping him.
"Yeah, I guess I am."
The woman sat up and letting the blanket fall to reveal herself, Alec took a look at her face and smiled.
"I always wondered what it would be like with you," he said.
"Well how was it?"
"Great, I can now honestly say I've been with a legend."
"Even if it's a dead legend?" she said taking another swig, "Christ I miss, this. Sex, pot, and a good stiff drink of jd."
"What about the smack?"
"No thanks, I think I've learned my lesson there, sweets. Listen baby, you've got to get your act together, and get out of here."
Alec reached over putting his hands around her waist drawing her near, "After."
She allowed herself to be brought near him and grasped him again, "No...now." she said and twisted.
Alec awoke with a dull pain in his stomach, he doubled over on the ground, holding himself, "Thanks a bunch, Jan. I needed that."
He stood and took a look at his ruined clothes. Blood stained his yellow shirt, and his purple jacket had been ripped in several places. He touched his face and smiled with relief as he felt no cuts, and he still had all of his teeth.
"Well at least I'm in one piece, which is more than I can say for my clothes."
Alec looked about the cell, finding the walls smooth and the ceiling enclosed. Nothing to hang on, nothing to hide in. Checking his pockets, with a dim hope, he found nothing.
Footsteps were comming down the hall, Alec layed on the ground again and closed his eyes. There was a clink as keys unlocked the door. It opened letting fresh air in, Alec to a breath and kept his eyes closed. Rough hands grabbed his arms, and hauled him up.
He looked dumbly at the guard, the guard hauled him out of the cell, and Alec moved quickly.
Bringing his head back, he slammed it again the nose of the guard, he turned on one heel and kicked the other in the center of the goin. The two guards fell, and Alec heard a gun fall to the floor, quickly looking about he found it and picked it up.
"Bye bye boys, " he said hitting them with the butt of the gun.
Alec ran down the corridor, and into an antechamber. A mirror window stared back at him, he stopped and cupped his hands around his eyes peering in. The next room was a large labratory, several greenish glass tanks stood against the far wall. Computers were everywhere.
Alec opened the door to the lab and walked carefully over to the tanks, his eyes widened as he saw two men in the tanks. Two men who looked exactly like him.
"Jesus, clones."
Suddenly there was a flash of red lights and a siren began to wail, Alec brought the gun up and shot both tanks. The contents spilled out onto the floor and the two men slithered out against the glass.
Alec shot one then the other, their blood mixing with the green liquid. Alec hurried out of the room and into a nearby office. He whirled around, looking for a way out. Finding a window, Alec picked up the chair and threw it against the glass, shattering it. Climbing out, he jumped down and out into the parking lot, and frantically up a lone hill.
He took one look back, "Bad karma my friend, I'll be back..."
An hour later...
"What the hell happened to you, man. You've been missing for awhile now." Slick Willie said as Alec sat on the couch and rubbed his eyes.
"You don't want to know, hey you still have the box I gave you?"
"Yeah, let me get it." Willie said as he walked into the bedroom and then retruned with a large box. Alec sat it down and opened it.
"Good Willie, thanks for holding onto this." he said pulling out two vaccine guns and two glocks. He set them down and carefully cleaned and loaded them, putting them onto the table.
"I need a favor. I need some money for clothes."
"I thought you had a wardrobe?"
"I can't go back to my place, they'll be there looking for me."
"Who?" said willie sitting down next to Alec. "What have you gotten yourself into? The Police?"
"No, worse. Just trust me, my place is no longer safe."
"I'll give you what I can, money's been tight," Will said handing Alec a wad of cash.
"Thanks," Alec said taking it and stuffing it into his pockets. "I'll see you later, and Will, be carefull."
Alec walked out of the apartment and into the seventies shop next door. Walking up to the counter he smiled and put the crupmled money on the counter.
"Three suits, insence, shoes, sunglasses, and one of those," he said pointing behind the counter. The clerks eyes widened and she smiled as she collected the items.
"Thanks," he said giving her a smile as he walked out into the sunlight.
