12 Sept 1857

Lord Althorpe arrived here. He brought a letter of introduction to Mr Portman from his father (Lord Portman). Mr Portman dined with the Kings, did not come home until late .

Sunday the 13th. Helen Teresa Lord Althrope and George went to church. Arrangements were made to go to camp meeting after dinner. Lord Althorpe, Mr Portman, Edward and Mr Parke drove five miles to the campground. The assembly of people were estimated at from six to ten thousand. The gentlemen made very few remarks about the meeting, all their arrangements seemed to have been made with great order, and there were none of the excesses so usual in former days. We like Lord Althorpe. He appears not only moral but religiously disposed.
