Amelia often used her diary as a means of instructing her family, and it was left on a table in the drawing room at Eldon House for her children to examine. Her son Edward's marriage to Sophia Ryerson was at times quite turbulent, and they even separated for a time. In this entry Amelia is concerned that Edward is neglecting his wife to pay attention to another woman, and she does not hesitate to tell him how she believes he should behave.
