Dateline 2004. Ho Chi Minh City is definately a city of motorcyclist. It is the most common form transportation for the masses. I understand from a local friend that there are 2.5 million motorcyclist in this city of 7.0 million. I do not have the official statistics but I would believe bikes outnumber car by at least 100:1. The scenario is however fast changing. A friend informed me that 5 years ago the bicycle to motorcycle ratio was 100:1 with hardly any cars on the road. Well, this is a vibrant city and with its growing affluence, more cars will be put on the streets of Ho Chi Mihn. My guess would be in 5 years the residents of this Great City will experience what we all dread.... Traffic Jams.
Beautiful tree line roads, with very little congestion
Motorcycles everywhere, trishaws as well.
Motorcyclist here do not need to wear helmets.
After wandering around for a while, I was wondering if there were any big capacity bikes here. Then I stumbeled upon the Big Bikers of Ho Chi Mihn City. They were at the starting point of a bicycle race. They were congregated there to Flag Off, Escort and I guess to add to the fun of the event.
The Big Bikes all parked in a row. The members all wore a standard blue outfit.
Thats me, with the HCM Bikers, in the back ground.
The cyclist at the grid, rearing to go.
