| Mae Nang Kwak is known as Neang Bock Neang Bouy in Cambodia. In the Thai-version of the Ramayana epic, Nangkwak was the daughter of a great saint named Pooh Chao Khao Khieu and friend of Prachand the daughter of Thao Unaraj or Thao Gok Kanak. The compassionate spirit of Nang Kwak is supposed to bring wealth to the household and is particularly popular with shopkeepers. Mae Nang Kwak is also known in Thai folk legend as Mae Naang Soo Phaa Wadee daughter of Soo Jit Praapha and Soo Mohn Thaa from the town of Matchigaa. Mae Nang Kwak was known and later revered for her talent in the kitchen and in acquiring wealth. Amulets featuring the image of Mae Nang Kwak were believed to have originated over 180 years ago during the early Ratanakosin period. Nang Kwak images from Wat Klang Bangkaew , Wat Kositaram, Wat Nong Pho and Wat Dhai Talad much sought after. |
