The hope of every nation is its children. Working in co-operation with schools & families, Lions Life Skills can help guide young people to become productive citizens, and make a real difference. Through our caring, understanding, guidance and teaching, we can affect history.
Our children need the self-confidence that comes from recognising and building on their strengths. They also need the insight of how to handle their emotions constructively, the ability to set goals and the knowledge and skills to stay healthy and drug-free.
You can help them gain these skills and knowledge.
OVERVIEW
Lions Life Skills has designed several Life Skills & HIV/AIDS prevention programmes to improve the lives of the adults and youth in our communities. We are a Section 21 Company (for no gain) and our aim is to ensure that each child and adult in South Africa has the opportunity to be trained on a comprehensive HIV/AIDS life skills programme.
Lions Life Skills incorporates several programmes, all of which are based on life skills:
- HIV/AIDS Prevention / Life Skills' Programme
- Executive Management HIV/AIDS Prevention Programme
- Lions Quest, Skills for Adolescence, for Grades 6 - 9 : a comprehensive and intensive life skills programme including the HIV/AIDS prevention module
As a Section 21 Company we offer a Community Rebate by offering the Lions-Quest programme to schools in your area. We will co-ordinate the commencement of this joint Community Project at the end of our Financial Year.
HIV/AIDS Statistics in South Africa
At present, South Africa is facing a dramatic increase in the rate of HIV infections and deaths caused by AIDS and associated infections.
- Every day, 1800 people are being infected with HIV and 360 people are dying of AIDS. 5,5 million people or one third of the South African workforce is HIV+ or have AIDS. This is going to impact greatly on your organisation's performance and productivity and hence on the bottom line of the business.
- In turn, your organisation will be incurring huge costs related to increased medical expenses and life insurances, death benefits, funeral costs, recruitment and re-training. In light of this, as managers in positions where we are able to make a difference, we need to ask ourselves if we can sustain our business?
OUTCOMES
Your organisation can benefit by implementing the HIV/AIDS Prevention Programme that :
- Teaches comprehensive life skills - such as decision making, handling emotions and better communication and addresses values and attitudes
- Empowers the individual to make informed decisions about his or her own sexual behaviour in order to live a healthy productive and HIV-free life
- Stabilizes the health and performance of your workforce, therefore avoiding costs of re-training and recruitment that will erode your bottom line
- An improved staff attitude through skills learned and the knowledge that your company has helped to improve their lives and that of their families
