LAUNCH OF NEW DREAM FOR LIONS QUEST
We are pleased to announce that we have received a new LCIF Grant in the amount of $100 000 for the implementation of Lions-Quest in our MD, over the next two years.
Lions Life Skills have committed R261 000 per year, thus, a total of R522 000, to the implementation of Lions-Quest, so together we can achieve the following :
- Training of 450 teachers as Lions-Quest Facilitators on 20 training courses
- Supply 16 000 learners workbooks.
But, the best news is that it will not cost Lions Clubs one cent to do this training. The only thing that we ask is that you help us to find the dedicated teachers so that we can organize 5 Facilitator training courses (of 20 teachers each) in each District.
A Lions-Quest Re-launch workshop will be held at MD Convention and comprehensive workshops will be held in each District from August to October 2004.
OFFICIAL ROLLOUT LAUNCH OF LIONS-QUEST IN W. CAPE
The MEC for the Department of Community Safety in the Western Cape, Minister Leonard Ramatlakane, officially launched the rollout of the Lions-Quest programme to the 300 teachers in the Eastern Metropole Area, Western Cape, on Friday 26th March 2004. Thus, 22 500 learners will start on the Lions-Quest programme in the first week of the 2nd term. We look forward to keeping you updated re the implementation!!
Advocate Anthea Michael, from the Department of Community Safety, was interviewed on Radio KFM and we received good coverage in several local newspapers.
ONGOING LIONS QUEST FACILITATOR TRAINING
We completed 2 Facilitator/Teacher Training courses in the past few months : one in Polokwane for the Pietersburg Lions, and one in George for the George Lions.
The George Lions are working with the very dynamic LIFE group who help disadvantaged children in the squatter areas to receive food and life skills training 3 times per week. This is an extremely worthwhile project and we are pleased that with the LCIF Grant we were able to supply training and books to the value of R80 000.
Mark Bularzik and Sue Keister from Lions Quest America met with several trained Lions Quest Facilitators who are implementing the Lions Quest programme in the Amanzimtoti. They were extremely impressed with the implementation of Lions Quest and have given us the undertaking that they will address several of the issues raised. We would like to thank DC Colin for organizing a superb visit for the Americans!
Amanzimtoti Lions had a Follow-up Session with their trained LQ Facilitators which was extremely well received. We will endeavour to have regular feedback sessions with the teachers to keep them motivated and up-to-date. Thanks Toti Lions!!
