Bro John Keiller Mackay(1888-1970)
Bro. John Keiller Mackay was initiated in Ionic Lodge #25 Toronto on 6 May 1925. He was born on 11 July 1888 in Pictou NS and educated at RMC of Canada in Kingston. He earned a BA in 1912 at St Francis Xavier University and a LLB at Dalhousie University. Serving overseas in WWI, he rose to the rank of Lt Col and commanded the 6th Bde CFA in 1916 and the "MacKay Group - three mobile brigades of artillery - in 1917-18. Tice wounded and three times mentioned in dispatches, he won the DSO. He was called to the Bar of NS in 1922 and the Bar of Ontario in 1923. He was made KC in 1933. His specialty was criminal law. In 1935 he was appointed a judge in the Supreme Court of Ontario and of the Provicial Court of Appeal in 1950. In 1957 he served as Lt Gov of Ontario he held offices in many Scottish Societies. He married Katherien Kean MacLeod and had three sons. He passed to the Grand Lodge above on 12 June 1970. | |
