Wherelse in the world can you find a region whereby the 3 Major religion of the World cohabits ? Namely, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. Asia and to be more precise South East Asia and the region of Indo-China. The 3 major world religion coincides.
SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF MERLION
The Merlion is a Half Lion and a Half Fish. It was commissioned by the STPB in 1968 to be the mascot for Singapore. So chosen because according to the legend, an Indian Prince saw a strange "beast" and was told by his advisers its Singa. Subsequently the trading port was named Singa-Pura. Lion City. As it was also called by a latter name Temasek which basically interpreted as sea. Combining this 2 elements we have a SEA LION. Or better known as MERLION.
And according to legend its recorded in the 11th Century. 1000 years letter in the 21st century the legend lives on.
The first Merlion was situated at Empress Place. Guarding as it would seem the economic mouth of Singapore River. It was shifted in 2001 to make way for the makeover and developmentof the Esplanade and Empress Place area.
However, a few years back the Merlion , Half Fish, Half Lion, has grown tremendously taller at 37m and "promoted" to Sentosa to look Northward.
The Merlion in the previous millenium has "bless" us with "good fortune" but his master, the devil is but a devouring Lion seeking whom he may devour. Today even at the beginning of the new millenium not to mention the last decade , Singapore has seen destruction of wealth. Many are seemingly rich but are poor and oppressed. How many of our investment has gone sour.
The Merlion actually paves the way, even as he is promoted to Sentosa, the arrival of his "immediate superior" in this NEW MILLENIUM to take over his place at the mouth of Singapore River, None other than Beelzebub, symbolized by the Esplanade Art Center.
If the Merlion of the last millenium represents PROSPERITYleaves us but asset rich and cash poor, oppressed and burdened. Financially high and dry.
The new master spirit willl bring us to a social and cultural peak , then leave us high and dry. Destroy the soul of the nation with immorality and new age stuff. All disguised in the name of ART.
