Faux Bikes Bike picture

Hello and thank you for visiting my website. I created this site for the final project in my website design class at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). We were tasked with creating a website for a fictitious uncle's business. I choose to create a website for a brick and mortar store that sells mountain and BMX bikes, bike accessories, and does bike repair and maintenance. I choose this business type because I enjoy biking in my spare time. My goal was to create a website that would advertise and increase awareness of my uncle's business and facilitate some communication between the shop and potential customers. I wanted to give customers contact information for the store, showcase some of the products available, and allow them to make appointments for bike repairs or maintenance. To meet these goals, I decided to create a website with five different pages. The homepage would give an introduction and overview of my uncle's shop. The bikes for sale and accessories/gear pages would showcase some of the products sold at the store. The repair/maintenance page would allow customers to set up a repair request. The about page, which you are currently reading, contains information on the process of creating this website. This website was created using Sublime Text 3 to write my HTML pages and CSS.

I think that I have created a website appropriate for customers looking to buy mountain and BMX bikes and related products. I wanted the website to look fun and exciting and appeal to people who enjoy the outdoors and exercise. The font used for the business name is called 'Luckiest Guy'. I found this font at https://fonts.google.com/. I think this font is fun and would appeal to people who enjoy biking. The three colors I used for the website were from a color theme on Adobe Color (https://color.adobe.com/explore/?filter=most-popular&time=all) called 'Phaedra'. I think these colors look great and the contrast between them really helps differentiate different areas of my webpages. The green reminds me of the outdoors and the orange reminds me of autumn. Both are appropriate for a website that sells bikes and accessories. I wanted my website to have a simple design and be easy to navigate. I think my pages accomplish this well. The logo at the top is large and fun. The navigation tabs underneath this banner are easy to read and understand. The main content for each page appears underneath in an organized and appealing manner.

There are several areas where I could improve on this website in the future. One change I would make is to the 'Bikes for Sale' and 'Accessories/Gear' pages. For this assignment I used html tables to display some of the items available at my uncles' shop. While these tables are a good way to display and organize certain types of data I would like to create a more visually appealing and detailed way to showcase the items available for sale. This could include pictures of each item as well as a more detailed description of the product. Another possible idea would be to sell products from the website and not just have it advertise products available at a brick and mortar location. I also think that a search function would be very useful for this website. This search would allow visitors to the site the ability to find a specific product or service that they are looking for quickly and easily. While I am happy with the design of my banner and navigation tabs I would like to spend more time improving the look of the content in the main body of my webpages. Lastly, the way the page compresses when you shrink the browser window could use some work.
