1/2 Granny Shawl
Materials: 2 6oz skeins of Red Heart  4 ply.
(I used 2 ply varigated for thinner shawl)
This made a medium size shawl without any fringes.  If you want a larger shawl or if you want to fringe the ends, you will need more yarn.
Crochet Hook size H

Row 1: Ch 2.  In second ch from the hook, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (the first dc), 2 dc in first dc, ch 1, (3dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in ch 1 corner sp, ch 1, 2 dc in next to last dc, 1 dc in last dc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in first dc, ch 1, 3 dc in ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3dc) in ch 1 corner sp, ch 1, 3 dc in ch 1 sp, ch 1, 2 dc in next to last dc, 1 dc in last dc (which was your ch 3 turning ch), turn.
Row 4: Ch 3, 2 dc in first dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3dc) in next ch 1 corner sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 2 dc in next to last dc, 1 dc in last dc, turn.

See a pattern forming? You should see a small triangle forming.  It self increases so your triangle will continue to get larger.  Continue this pattern until you have the size you want.
I made 33 rows with 12 ozs of yarn.  You can fringe the ends if you want. Or make picots, or do what ever edging you like.
I did a shell stitch edge, and that was quite pretty.
