| Sam: Hey Geoff, this is my territory, and I out-rank you, now if you dont get on that stretcher, Ill abort this flight, Ill log you as a troublesome patient, and Ill charter an Air Ambulance to come and collect you. Geoff looks stunned. Sam: Now, how about some co-operation mate. (Geoff gets on stretcher, Kate mouths Thank You to Sam) Geoff: Hes in abit of a mood isnt he? (screams out in pain as Kate settles his leg onto the stretcher) Kate: There, there, youll soon be in safe orthopaedic hands. ****************************************** At Broken Hill, because there is a Rodeo in town, there are no beds available for Geoff. Just one in Maternity, which they are keeping spare in case a bramah bull sits on someone. Dr: One of the pelviss had adjoining rooms at the Motel across the road, booked you and Kate in there. Kate: But Ive got to get back to Coopers Crossing? Dr: But Geoff cant be left alone, and dont bother to ask, I cant spare anyone. (Geoff smiles, Kate looks fed up, picks up all her equipment, follows Geoff out of the Hospital) ****************************************** In Motel rooms. Geoff: Come on Kate, theres nothing we can do about the situation, were both exhausted, well sort it out. (pause) A suicide pact. Kate: Were on the ground floor. Geoff: (talking in silly voice) Lets be adult about this, lets, lets be intelligent people and order the most expensive meals on the menu. (Kate smiles) Ear. Before that I plan to open a good pricey Champagne. Kate: Youre on painkillers remember, Champagnes not on. Geoff: (looks up from menu) What painkillers? Kate: The ones Ive been giving you? Geoff: (reaches into his shirt pocket) Oh you mean urmm, these? Kate: (smiling) You, are the worst patient I have ever had the misfortune to put up with. Geoff: (hands Kate the tablets) Urmm, I think Im allergic to them. (smiles broadly at Kate, she takes tablets into her room) ****************************************** Mike Lancaster, needs operation on spleen. As Geoff and Kate are away in Broken Hill, Chris has to operate alone, with an inexperienced theatre staff. ****************************************** Kate clears away the plates after their meal, then pours herself a glass of Champagne. Geoff now sat on a couch, leg supported on pillows on a small table. Kate sits on end of couch. Geoff: Hey, come and sit over here. (Geoff pats space on couch between them) Kate: I dont want to bump your leg. Geoff: Oh come on. (pats couch again) They both laugh, Kate sits next to Geoff. He tries to reach forward for his glass on the table, but his leg is too painful, Kate passes him his glass. Geoff: Ta. A toast. To umm, Coopers Crossing, no, no wait a minute, thats a waste of a toast, to erh, to us. (they clink glasses) Kate: Isnt that a waste as well? Geoff: Urm, dont underrate yourself, to you, my favourite Nurse. (clink glasses, share a loving look) Kate: Heres to you, my.(pause)patient, heres hoping hell drop dead, and let me off the hook. (they both smile) Geoff: Im sorry Kate, Im not in a dying mood. Kate: Youre forgiven. (they look deep into each others eyes) Geoff: (softly) Kate. (Geoff and Kate kiss) This isnt sensible. Kate: Geoff. Its not even possible. (looking down at his leg, they smile at each other, kiss again. The phone rings, Kate stops kissing) Kate: Id better get that. Geoff: (still kissing) Erh, Hurh. (as Kate gets up to answer the phone Geoff rolls off his pillow onto his side, as he gets himself sat up, his leg is painful) Geoff: Oh, Oh, I was wrong about Champagne, its got no orthopaedic application whatsoever. Kate answers phone, its Jack telling her that Chris has had to operate alone. Kate decides not to tell Geoff. Geoff: Who was that? Kate: Erh, just a concerned person, Jacks worried about you. (Geoff looks lovingly at Kate) Kate: Id better get back to being your Nurse. (walks into her own room) Geoff: (disappointed, looks down at his knee, lifts his hands into the air) Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! ****************************************** |
