D'ni Linguist's Notebook v0.95 beta
This is a Java program that translates from D'ni to English. Although it's somewhat messy on longer documents, it does pretty well with short phrases. In addition, there are some dictionary utilities (including sorting) and options to modify transcription settings.

INSTALLATION
USAGE
  • Basically, use the tabs to switch between different aspects of the program. The menu bar will allow you to manipulate files.
  • The D'ni Linguist's Notebook has three basic file types: dab, dtf, and dnc. DAB is the D'ni Alphabet Format and is used for saving transcription settings. DTF is the D'ni Text Format and is used for saving documents. DNC is the D'ni Dictionary Format. Only one DNC file is necessary.
  • The program should be fairly straightforward, and there are explanatory notes for the few times it isn't.
KNOWN BUGS
  • When switching format options on the Dictionary tab, the list's width changes and throws things out of whack visually.
  • The dictionary file needs some serious updating and filling in.
  • Numbers aren't translated properly (e.g. 98 D'ni system would be translated as 98 decimal system, not the correct 233).
FUTURE PLANS
  • Writing help files.
  • Perhaps a Dictionary Maintenance Council or other small group that would be devoted to filling in the copious blanks in the dictionary file and keeping it up-to-date.
  • Better file bundling, so users don't have to go hunting for all the necessary files.
  • A clock, with proper conversion utilities.
