This was a pretty bad storm that whipped up after lunch and lasted all through the afternoon and into the night. This was about 2:00 PM.
Whenever we get a lot of rain, it flows down the slope and into our backyard. Well, the near edge is our property, but the majority of it is on the neighbors' land. It would get a LOT bigger later in the afternoon.
This is one of our deck chairs. It got wet when it rained. I thought it looked pretty, but the camera apparently disagreed.
This is the same patch of sky much later in the afternoon. You can see that the storm was really working itself up. Thunder was still rumbling about 10:00 that night, although the rain was gone by then. And yes, I did take the liberty of using a darkening effect on some of these images, but only to counteract the camera's automatic lightening of the images.
By this time I had learned to use the macro function on the camera. I took this under-the-leaves shot of one of the cucumber plants growing on the deck. The plant (visible in the wet chair picture) isn't more than a foot or so high, but the leaves are huge. After some experimenting, I was able to get my lens right up under the leaves. And before you ask: no, cucumbers don't have red flowers. That's another plant in the background.
