Lingerie
Lingerie \Lin`ge*rie\, n. [F.] Linen goods collectively; linen underwear, esp. of women; the clothing of linen and cotton with its lace, etc., worn by a women.

Although the French originally intended lingerie to be made exclusively with linen, today almost any fabric can be used. The common definition may refer to underwear or other garments worn next to the skin, yet this most feminine word - 'lingerie' - promises much more than mere underwear.
