FRIGHT PLANET
Part One: The Black Hole
Chapter 14A

They gave Naomi and Olive a small taser to keep aimed at Visago, should he try anything stupid.
While green boy worked on the damaged wiring of the Panel, Edele, Keavy, and Sinead lurked through the dark streets of the city. Most of the crowds slept on blankets and boxes in the streets.
Some beings were eating others. The smell of sweet meats engulfed the air. Keavy was closest, and tried not to breathe it in.
The creatures would kill and eat the sleeping. They never got a chance to wake. The jets still stood, totaled, in the streets. Some used them to sleep in, but they were otherwise unarmed.

Keavy gave the signal.

Edele flew across the tops of the buildings. Keavy bind into her suit. She threw her coat off. She'd have to wait for just the right moment.

Sinead waited in a dark alley.

Edele flew over the crowd, low enough for them to notice her. This was a distraction tactic. They tried to grab her and beat her with bats and one-by-twos. But she was still too high. Suddenly, some alien with it's own wings flew up to meet her. It made a high-pitched squeal, and swiped at her with it's long claws.
The heat rose behind Edele's eyes, and in a matter of seconds she singed it to a crisp.

"Ha!"

Edele landed on top of her crushed jet. She grabbed the person sleeping and tossed her out. Edele's eyes still glowed red and she looked somewhat larger with her wings spread. She stuck them out and hissed at oncoming attackers. They took one look at her eyes and enormous wings and ran in fear. Edele laughed.

Keavy tried her own tactic. She zipped quicker that lightning from street light to fallen street light until she neared her own jet.
She was just inches from her space-jet. The monster, alien, whatever was about six feet tall and jumped out in front of her. It kind of looked like a frog with one eye and a horn. It grabbed at her, but she ducked out of the way. It only angered the monster more. But it turned to find itself facing down the double barrel of Sinead's shotgun.
The decapitated monster fell to it's knees. Keavy's eyes widened as the torso fell forward.

"I hate violence.", Sinead said nonchalantly, resting her gun on her shoulder.

Keavy attempted to start her jet. It sputtered and died. She spotted the over-turned 18-wheeler just a few feet ahead.
The metal scraped against the asphalt as she struggled to push the fallen craft away from the building. She pushed it to Edele's, stopped to catch her breath.
Edele hopped off her jet and closed her wings.

"Don't strain yourself.", Edele said.

"So, how will we carry these things?", Sinead said, coming from out of nowhere.

Keavy jumped. "Jeez, Socky! Don't do that! I hate it when you teleport."

"Sorry. So, how will we carry them?"

"I've got an idea."

Keavy ran to the fallen truck.

"What's she up to?", Sinead said.

"I know. She's going to lift that diesel and see if it will start. We'll use it to carry the jets out of the city.", Edele said.

There's that twin telepathy thing again.

Keavy lifted the heavy 18-wheeler, the wheels hit the black-top. She saw the crushed body that had been hidden under it. She turned away quickly and jumped into the cab of the diesel. The keys were still in the ignition. She turned until the engine miraculously came to life.
Keavy let out a tiny cheer.

Edele could hear the crowds re-approaching.

"Hurry, Keaves!"

The jets were loaded into the back of the truck and Edele and Sinead got in with them. Keavy drove.
The crowds jumped on the diesel and pounded on it. Keavy sped up and swerved until each one fell off. They made their way out of the city.
