| Part One: The Black Hole Chapter 6
They floated through outer-space in a diamond-shaped formation. Edele at the front, Sinead at the back, the other two at either side.
"Oh, come on! They're cute.", Lindsay said, continuing the conversation.
"All they do is lay about all day. And there's too many of them."
"What if one came up to you and was like, 'Eddie, I wuv you'?", Lindsay said, imitating a reason facsimile of a talking cat.
"I'd sell it to the circus and make a lot of money! I've got a talking cat!"
"You're impossible."
"I'm not impossible. I just don't like cats. If I jumped up in your lap and started rubbing against your face, what would you do?", Edele said.
"Um,if you did itThen we'd need to have a long discussion."
"Shut it."
"We could have it over a candlelit dinner with soft music playing in the background.", Lindsay teased in a sultry voice, making kissing noises.
"You only think you're funny.", Edele said.
She could make out the ship now, just ahead.
"I've got it. Anyone else see that?", she said.
"Yeah.", Lindsay said.
"And me without my ship-warming present!", Keavy joked.
"Everybody, put your shields up. If it sees us, we're no doubt toast.", Edele said.
She reached up above her head and flipped the switches that activated the shields. The rest followed suit.
"I hope the people down there appreciate what we go through just to save their butts.", Keavy commented.
"Someone save my butt tonight", Sinead sang, mocking the old Elton John song.
"I bet Edele would like to.", Lindsay said, cheekily.
"Lindsay, for the last time...", Edele said.
"Does anybody else see that?", Sinead said., "At the right."
The rest of them looked to their rights. There was what looked like a cluster of stars and odd lights off in the distance.
"Is that what I think it is?", Lindsay said.
"Could be."
"We don't have time to worry about that right now.", Edele said.
"Oh, come on. It's really pretty. Let's all stare at it!", Lindsay said.
Suddenly, she felt a light shock on her lower back.
"Ow! Hey! What the-?"
Edele laughed. "I control your jet, too, ya know."
"You're a meanie!", Lindsay whined.
"You two quit playin'.", Keavy said.
There were sudden blasts of light. Like a light show. It wasn't 'til after she felt her jet rock that Lindsay deciphered what is was.
"They're firing at us!"
"That's not possible. It's coming from all around us.", Sinead said.
"Unless", Edele started.
The craft flew by her. It was quick as lightning.
"Holy mother!", she exclaimed.
"They're moving too fast! I can't get a good shot!", Keavy said.
Another craft sped out passed them. They were surrounded in fast blurs of light. Lindsay started to panic. She gripped the control stick. Her mind raced as she tried to figure out what to do next.
"Wait!", Edele said to one of the enemy jets, "Stay still!"
Lindsay closed her eyes. She wasn't really aware of what she was doing, her fingers just hit a switch. Suddenly, one of the speedy air-crafts froze in mid flight, directly in front of here. The others gasped as the observed tiny jet stuck in a bluish force field.
"Lindsay, what did you just do?", Keavy said.
She opened her eyes slowly and saw the same thing. Before she could say anything, the jet exploded.
"It's a freeze-frame.", Sinead said.
"It's more than that. I didn't shoot at it, did you?", Edele said.
The others said no.
"The field must suck it's energy and use it against it."
"Cool.", Keavy said.
"Lindsay what did you do to make that?"
"I don't know. My eyes were closed."
"Try again. Try to remember where your hand was."
She guessed, hitting the same button. Another one froze. Then blew up. While it was frozen, Edele observed that it wasn't being piloted. It was remote controlled.
"Clever.", she said under her breath.
They hadn't noticed that they had been turned around to the right, and pushed forward. Closer to the strange cluster of stars. Lindsay closest of all.
And they didn't notice the black hole opening up.
