| DEMIGODS AND APOCALYPSES... IN D MINOR Chapter 1: The Hotel
The concert finished, and the props put away, the band members were led out the back to the Hotel. The four, spirited Irish women were Stateside for a rare tour. Tonight had been the first gig, a two night performance.
They reached their rooms, and separated in pairs. The twins went into one room, the other two went into the other
She was a pretty one. With big, brown eyes, and a happy-go-lucky personality, she had the ability to turn most heads. Her hair was long and brown, and spent most of it's time in a Victorian curl. Being the only one in the band who wasn't full-blooded Irish, Lindsay Armaou stood out.
She headed down the hall of the Hotel's third floor, trying to locate the ice-machine.
That's when she met him.
They collided, and Lindsay stumbled back and fell. She got up and brushed herself off.
So much for chivalry, Lindsay thought.
"Are you just going to stand there?", she said, "Have you seen the ice-machine?"
"I am here to warn The Three.", he said.
His voice seemed to echo. There was something unsettling about him. He wore a long cloak, his face covered in shadows cast from his hood. He didn't seem dangerous. He just seemed like...like he didn't belong.
"Okay, well, good luck with that. Goodbye.", Lindsay said.
She began to walk away
"Your world is to be destroyed soon, Lindsay Armaou."
She froze. She turned to him.
"How do you know my name? Did security let you pass?"
"I must warn The Three. They must prevent it from happening."
"Oh...kay."
"Lead me to them."
"To who?"
"I must find The Three."
"I don't know what you're talking about. But you could try the mental hospital..."
"Enough stalling. I haven't much time.", he said.
Lindsay was about to remark, when she was interrupted by another voice.
"You there! Hey! Who are you?", it was their tour manager.
Lindsay saw him coming up the hall. When she turned back to the 'mystery man' he was gone.
"Who was that?", the tour manager said.
Okay, did he not just see the guy vanish into thin air?
"I have no idea.", she said.
"Are you okay? What are yoou doing in the halls?"
"I'm looking for the ice-machine."
"I'll get some ice. Just go to bed."
Lindsay headed back to her room. Her roommate was fast asleep. Good thing Lindsay had her own key-card. She slid it in and quietly opened the door.
What was it he had said. The world would end? This guy clearly had to be a deranged fan. She pushed it to the back of her mind and climbed into her bed.
It was three a.m.. The Lynch twins slept in their beds. The lights had been left on.
Edele Lynch, lead singer, slept peacefully, unaware of any strange happenings around her. The blanket and sheets rose and slid off her body as she floated to the ceiling.
Edele turned in her sleep, only to awaken with her face pressed against the ceiling.*
All...righty then.
She was sure she was dreaming. She tried to wake up, but nothing changed. She wasn't dreaming.
She tried not to panic. She was always a pretty level-headed one. Edele struggled to push herself away from the ceiling. She began to soar towards the window. It was shut. She would crash right into it!
Her identical twin, Keavy-Jane, dozed like a log below her.
"Keavy!! Keavy, wake up!! Wake UP!!"
Her sister sat up in her bed. Her short, spiked hair stuck up comically.
"Huh? What?", she said groggily, her eyes still shut.
Keavy opened her eyes slowly. Edele was not in her bed.
"Eddie, where are you?", she said.
"Look up."
Keavy opened her eyes wider. Edele floated above her. Keavy blinked.
"Edele?"
"Yep."
"Am I dreaming?"
"Nope."
There was a short pause.
"You're floating."
"Yes. I've pretty much established that. Help me down."
They decided to leave that room. She sat in the middle of the hall. She looked confused, surprised to see them.
"Sinead, what on Earth are you doing?", Keavy said.
Sinead O'Carroll searched for a way to explain. But there was none.
"I don't know how I got out here.", she said.
"Maybe you were sleep-walking, like.", Edele said.
"No. No, I was definitly awake because I had to pee. I still have to pee."
"Are you sure you didn't just open the wrong door, and-?"
"I'm not that absent-minded, Edele!"
"I'm just saying because it was dark, like..."
"So,..erm...why are you sitting on the floor, then?", Keavy said.
"Have you felt how soft this carpeting is?"
Suddenly, Edele grabbed Keavy's shoulder. Her touch felt uneasy. And the look in her eyes spoke volumes.
"Edele, what's the matter?"
"Keavy,...look at the other rooms."
The doors were wide open. All the other hotel occupants on the floor had seemingly, suddeningly disappeared. Sinead quickly stood to her feet.
"Everybody is...gone."
"There were other people here besides us, right?", Keavy said.
Suddenly, Edele's mind diverted to something else.
"Lindsay!"
"Oh, she's not with us, is she?", Sinead said.
"Is she in the room with you?"
"How should I know? I'm out here!"
"Sinead, your door is opened."
Sinead looked down at her underpants, as if she was checking her zipper.
"Huh? Oh, right. You said 'door'."
"I'll check for Lindsay.", Edele said.
She went into the room.
"We should check the rest of the Hotel.", Keavy said to Sinead.
"Why?"
"Because there might be someone who knows what's going on."
"I don't want to know what's going on.", Sinead said.
"Come on, Socky."
"Okay, fine. I'll check the Front Desk."
No sooner had she said that than she vanished. It was like a blink.
Keavy looked all around, turning full circle.
"Sinead...? Where did you go?" Next Chapter |
