The BAC Telescope & Accessory Field Power Supply
Well, there have been a number of changes to the project. For one the ABS plastic outlet center plate is now aluminum, much stronger, I also had to buy it! I believe that change is good, sometimes. Actually one has a tendency to learn a great deal when building a project like this. I am also in the process of changing the built-in charging feature, but more on that later. To the left you will see some of the latest photos of the project. I am nearly finished except for the final wiring configuration of the Truemeter DPM952-T Panel Mount Digital Multimeter. This meter will be mounted to the left of the outlet center and allow me to monitor six different outputs from the power supply. I can tell you that the instruction booklet that comes with this meter is not for an amateure like me! The meter can be configured in so many ways that the booklet is confusing on just what is needed to do what!

Feburary 8, 2002 Update After having some difficulty configuring the, actually Falcon multimeter, the Applications Engineer at Truemeter is having one configured complete with specialized instructions for my project mailed to me! How cool! In all honestness the folks at Truemeter have been of immense help in getting the meter configured for my specific purpose. I had a number of other inquireis I sent to other electronics suppliers and a majority of them just bleew me off! It seems they aren't interested in helping someone prototype something new, just volume sales. Anyway, come the first part of next week I should be able to wrap up the documentation of this project. I have a completed parts list in Word format, I just need to figure out how to get it into this page. I am still working on the electrical schematic and that could take some time! Feburary 11, 2002 Update The pre-wired meter arrived in the mail today and once it was hooked up it functioned as advertised! The only thing I can think of about the other was that all of the soldering and de-soldering damaged the board. Well like they say "All's well that ends well". Now I just need to get delivery of that new Meade 12" LX200 GPS scope and put it to work! For those interested in how the meter was configured, the schematic is HERE. If you decide to build one of these power supplies and would like to know a little more feel free to e-mail me. I have more photos and am still attempting the schematic! Good Luck!
