SIXTH GENERATION

34. Joseph LONG ⁽⁶³⁾ was born on 23 Jul 1770 in Augusta Co., VA. He died on 6 Jan 1837. The third through sixth children are thought to have settled in Taledega Co., AL. Some of them moved there while the Cherokee Indians still occupied the country. They were known to be remarkable for their uprightness, integrity, industry and piety. One daughter married Andrew Wittenberg and the other married William Carpenter. He was married to Catherine (Catrin) FOSTER on 5 Dec 1793 in Augusta Co., VA.

35. Catherine (Catrin) FOSTER was born on 17 Jan 1770 in Augusta Co., VA. She died on 25 Aug 1811 in TN. Children were:

i. Willam Foster LONG^{(64) (65)} was born on 31 Aug 1794 in VA. He was a Shinpaster in 1837. ⁽⁶⁶⁾ He was quite prosperous; thought to be worth 50 thousand dollars. In the shinpasters race of 1837 he and his partners change certificates. His partners put all their property out of the reach of creditors. So William expended most of his property to redeem the tickets. He died in Sep 1841 in Taladega, AL. He was described as He was a very fine looking man, much stooped in the back from rheumatism in early life.. He was the second son, was a very fine looking man, much stooped in the back, caused by rheumatism in early life; was quite prosperous; thought for a time to be worth fifty thousand dollars. He, in company with several others, issued change certificates in the shinplaster race of 1837. When they had issued tickets for a large amount his partners put their property out of the reach of the law. Long disdained such a course, and took up the tickets as they were presented for payment. In this way the most of the property was expended. He married a second wife, moved to Taladega, AL and died about the year 1840 or perhaps a little later.
ii. Henry LONG was born on 11 Sep 1796. www.c-zone.net/autrey/aqwg95.htm Says b. 12 Jul 1796 He died on 16 Aug 1867 in TX. He was a Methodist Minister. ⁽⁶⁴⁾ He accumulated little property; raised a large family of children; was a good and useful man, and when far advanced in life went ot Texas and died.
iii. Anna LONG was born on 26 Aug 1798. She died on 20 Apr 1865.
iv. Mary LONG⁽⁶⁷⁾ was born on 11 Sep 1800. She died on 10 Jan 1806. She was sadly wounded by a needle, which had been by neglect left in her dress. She, not knowing it was there, in getting on a horse stuck it in her leg. It remained there for a long time, perhaps for years, before it was extracted. Her health was impaired. She never raised a family and died young.

Autrey says she died 24 Sept 1874.

vi. Margaret LONG was born on 24 Jul 1805.
vii. John LONG was born on 9 Mar 1807. He died after 1860.
viii. Joseph LONG was born on 9 Mar 1807 in VA. He prospered well in life. He died on 6 Sep 1838. He was living in Taladega, AL. Prospered well in life.
ix. James LONG was born on 25 Jan 1809. He died on 18 Feb 1849.
