240. Robert CHALFANT
was born on 12 May 1688 in Sandwich, Kent, England.
(197) He was Baptist in 1727 in Birmingham, East Marlborough, Chester
Co., PA. He was a delegate to the Philadelphia Baptist Association for
the years 1727 to 1750. He was a member of the Brandywine Baptist Church which
was erected in 1718. In 1742, the Newlin Branch was erected and he was a member
of that church for the rest of his life. He signed a will on 3 Mar 1767 in Birmingham,
East Marlborough, Chester Co., PA.(198)

In the name of God Amen. I Robert Chalfant of Birmingham in the County of Chester
and Province of Pennsylvania being weake in Body but through the mercy of God
of sound mind and memory doth make and ordain this my last Will and Testament
in manner and form following----
Imprimis First it is my will that all my just debts and funeral expense be paid
and discharged as soon as may be after my decease by my Executors hereafter be
named
Imprimis I give to my beloved wife Martha Chalfant all the Income of my Reale
Estate yearly & every year during her natural life.
Imprimis I give to my two daughters Mary Shields and Ruth Freame all that Tract
of Messuage of Land I now live on to be equally divided between them by a straight
line across the said please from Buckonghame's line to the line of Isaac Bullock
or of William Smith and Ruth Freame to have part adjoining to Robert Green's
Land to them and their respective heirs and Assigns forever still leaving to
my loving wife the yearly Income of the said pleases during her natural life.
Imprimis I give to my son Robert Chalfant the sum of five shilings it being in
full of his share being allready advanced.
Imprimis I give to my son Thomas Chalfant half that Tract or Messuage of Land
wherein he now lives he paying all the Morgage and Bond and any other Contracts
to Joseph Parker but now deceased and further it is my will that if he neglect
or Refuse to dischearge the seame in one year after my decease my Executors shall
have full power either of them to sell they one half of that Messuage of Land
to defray them debts we contracted with the said Parker and if any overplush
their besides paying the debts & costs to Return it to my son Thomas Chalfant
and I give him the sum of five shillings in full of all his Legyses
Imprimis I order that land that was cauled Coopers' Land be sould by my Executors
after neamed
Imprimis I give to my Grand Daughter Martha Barnet the sum of five pound to be
paid within one yeare after my decease by my Excutors hereafter neamed
Imprimis I give to my Grandaughter Jame Freame a Cow to the vallew of three pound
teen shilling
Imprimis I give to my daughter Elisabeth Barnet the sum of two pounds a year
to wit after my Wife decease to be paid by Mary Shields and Ruth Freame out of
the Real Estate given to her during her neatural life and to no other person
or persons deaming by from our under her but for her yous and further I give
her five shillings to be paid within six months after my decease by my Excutors
after neamed.
Imprimis the Remainder of my asteat after the Legtees is paid I give to my wife
Martha to yous at her disposheal
Imprimis Lastly I nominate constitute make & ordain my Trusty Friends Neathen
Freame and Robert Green Junor my sole Excutors of this my last Will and Testament
and I do hereby utterly disallow Revoke and disannul all & every other former
Testaments Wills Legicies and Excutors by my in any ways before this time neamed
willed & bequeather Reatifying and Confirming this and no other to be may
last Will and Testatment I wittness whearof I have hereunto set my hand and
seal this third day of March one thousand seven hundred and sixty seven 1767.

Sealed signed published pronounced and declared by the said Robert Chalfant as
his last Will and Testament in the presence of us. Nathanael Ring, Benjamin Ring,
Robert Green.
Interlined before signed the words out of the Reael Estate given to them Chester
April 6th 1767 THEN personally appeared Nathaniel Ring, Robert Green and on their
Solemn Affirmations according to Law did solemly decalre affirma dn say that
they were personally present and did see and hear Robert Chalfant the Testator
within named sign seal publish pronouce and declare the within writing as and
for his last will and Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of a sound
and well disposing mind and memory to the best of their understandings. Affirmed
before H.H. Graham D Regr.
Be it remembered that on the sixth day of April Anno Dom 1767 the last will and
testament of Robert Chalfant deceased was proved in due form of law and letters
testamentary were granted to Nathan Fream and Robert Green Junr. sole executors
therein named they being solemnly affirmed well and truly to Administer and bring
in an inventory of the deceased's Estate into the Register's Office at Chester
on or before the sxth day of May next and to render a true just account of their
administration in a year or when legally required, Given under the seal of said
office.

The History of Chester Co, PA. Some sources list Robert as a planter.

(212) He was Baptist in 1750 in Philadelphia, PA. He attended the
Philadelphia Baptist Assn. with his father. He attended by himself in 1751,
1754, 1756, 1759 and 1760. He died about 1787 in Brownsville, Fayette Co., PA.
He served in the military Revolutionary War in Chester Co., PA Militia. He
was a Private in the Continenial Line in Captain Luckey's Company, Chester Co.,
PA according to PA Archives Series 5, Vol. 4, pp.271 & 618 and Ser. 5, Vol
5, pp. 569, 578, 582 and 593. He resided in Chadd's Ford, PA. His geneology
listed in Chalfant Roots.
